Living
Life is of our own creation. To truly live, one must constantly create. Life is as beautiful as one makes it.

i really like the fischer quote. i hadn’t heard that one. i agree completely. also, this is one of the nicest pictures of randie i can recall. this is one of my favorite strips ever.
Dada… Oh, you know she WILL… and for all of you who are not in the know… Scapula has a new book out… and I got one! NYAH-nyah-nyah! It’s a hot piece of comics lit, ya’ll. And it’s cheap! So get yours today!
anatman…. Thank you. I feel the happies over your comment!
As someone who has never created a thing in my life I feel today’s comic is entirely too optimistic and cheerful for me to comment on in any way but the following:
Bah, Humbug.
Jenn… aw… I’m sure you’ve created SOMEthing… how about a ruckus? Surely you’ve done that.
I love Lady Jenn; she reaffirms my faith in pessimism! Take me, my wandering, talentless muse! I’ve never created anything more significant than a bad limerick! (Not a dirty limerick… just badly written!)
Love that quote by Ernst Fischer, that’s my oldest girl in a nut shell. She’s a musician and she views her body as a work of art in progress. She has more tattoos than I can count, and won’t be done till her body is literally covered.
I can’t say that I completely understand her desire to become an illustrated woman but I fully support her right to express herself. Each tattoo is a representation of some pivotal point in her life, or of something that means a great deal to her.
If you know her you can actually start piecing her life story together just by looking at her body art. Some are large and some are small, but they all link together to tell the story that is uniquely her.
Kirwar… Faith in pessimism… wouldn’t that be a cynic? That should be a quote somewheres… and bad limericks… no matter how awful, are still creative! Bad poetry, bad art, bad song lyrics all came from somewhere (maybe you believe Salma Hayec in Dogma).
Gram… at one of the local wineries here, there is a feller named Robin. He has the best most colorful and whimsical tattoos I have ever seen. They, too, tell a story and are all intertwined on his one arm. There is Robin Hood and a robin in a tree all telling a story. He has a flying clock on his wrist to remind him that time is fleeting… I like that. THere is nothing more entertaining than having Robin pouring wine and telling us his story.
My favorite quote about art is a little more cynical. It’s been attributed to Andy Warhol, but Larry McMurtry said it first:
“Art is anything you can get away with.”
Brig: Hmm…. I’ve created lots of splatter paintings in red with my fists? No, that’s no good. I’ve….. made….. lots and lots of disasters? I dunno, is there an art category for ‘most screwed up life before 25?’ Because if so, I’ve got the Eiffel Tower. Seriously, until about three years ago I was never interested in creating things. I wanted to hurt people and wreck things. These days….. well, mostly the same but I look back and realize I’ve learned a lot about the things I couldn’t ruin.
Kirwar: Everyone sings sweetly to me until their bones crack under my heel….. then only a few keep it up. No offense, but I doubt you have the stamina to last, hun. And besides, what’s wrong with bad limericks?! Aren’t limericks basically bad by nature?
I think that our good friend, Marcel Duchamp was the inspiration for that quote. Warhol took Duchamp’s idea and ran with it!
