Lennon
It’s John Lennon’s birthday… and although he was not my favorite Beatle, I admired his art-sense and his creative vibe. You know, he went to art school….

Brig,
I love it!
Ringo Starr was also into “Skiffle” with the “Eddie Clayton Skiffle Band”.
And for those who missed it…
From John Lennon’s: Imagine
Imagine there’s no coffee, it’s easy if you try.
No grounds below us, above us only chai.
Imagine all the people, drinking herbal tea.
Imagine there’s no lattes, it isn’t hard to do.
Nothing to grind or steam for, and no frothing too.
Imagine all the people, drinking herbal tea.
You may say that I’m a nutcase, but I’m not the only one.
I hope someday you’ll join us, in a cup of Earl Grey Tea.
Imagine no cup warmers, I wonder if you can.
No need for cream or sugar. Loose leaf in a tin.
Imagine all the people, drinking herbal tea.
You may say that I’m a nutcase, but I’m not the only one.
I hope someday you’ll join us, in a cup of Earl Grey Tea.
Let’s not neglect the influence of Johnny Cash, and his early recording of Rock Island Line.
According to Wiki, John Lennon and the Quarrymen may have recorded: Rock Island Line, before Johnny Cash.

Jug Band music *shudders*. Killer Rainbow!
Awww, couldn’t have thrown in a Blue Meanie?
thanks for remembering John on his birthday. “just gimme some truth”
I did not know that! But nor does it surprise me.
We all have to start somewhere. Happy B-day to John.
Yikes, now I’m thinking of waffles. Thanks, Brig.
Cool time warp; psychedelic colors, peace sign, yellow submarine (periscope at least) and, ha, Yoko blowing into a jug. Well, it looks like her.
Joe… That is a scary take on “Imagine,” except for no more frou-frou lattes, which are not real coffees anyway.
*heh* Learn something new every day.
Being an avid fan of a wide variety of music genres, I have four different recordings of that song by three different groups, including The Brothers Four, as well as Johnny Cash.
Maybe Randie can make the reverse connection to Lennon’s interests and draw some of his songs.
For me, the 4th grade song I remember was The Syncopated Clock.
There was a man like you and me,
As simple as a man could ever be,
And he was happy as a king,
Except for one peculiar thing…
I know the rest but won’t recite it here. 😉
Glad you guys got a kick out of the Skiffle/John toon. It was the result of some research. I’d intended to do a Lennon toon, and I got caught up in the research and the Skiffle bit. I’d not known about Skiffle and it was kind of this revelation. Randie’s response is not far from my own. I learned the “Rock Island Line” in the third grade and loved it. I don’t recall the name of my third grade music teacher person. We only saw her once a week.
‘Goo goo goo joob”, Randie! “Koo koo ka choo” is from S&G’s “Mrs. Robinson!”
Kirwar… you’re right… and it’s also from “I Am the Walrus”… which isn’t one of my more favorite Beatles songs.
I was blown away by “Walrus” when I was 19! Later I learned from a book by folklorists Iona & Peter Opie that the chant at the end is “Umpah, umpah, stick it up your jumper!”, a Liverpool schoolboy taunt to someone who just can’t figure out where to put something. And “Yellow matter custard” is a tribute to cafeteria tapioca pudding. :O)
Kirwar: WHa? Wha? Really? And I always thought it was “yellow mellow custard”… it’s funny what we THINK are the lyrics… and what they really ARE and what they really MEAN! Sheesh. Thanks for the Beatles trivia.
Heh. I always thought Paul sang “Down to Junior’s farm, where all are mellow!” But it’s really “where I wanna lay low”. Really. Ah, well, silly song! :O)
