Late Dinner
We call the instance when our cat comes in and loves all over us at dinnertime, “Fake Love.” Yes, that moment where you are your cat’s Bestest Pal of all time… treasured companion and loving owner. Once fed, the cat shoots out the cat door not to be seen until she requires your lap for warmth.
Just because you know WHY the Cat loves you, doesn’t mean that it’s “Fake.”
fake love or no love at all – which is better?
Ah yes, cupboard love. 😛
Though I remember one cat, Jonesy (after the cat in Alien, I think)….
There were three cats in the household, and come dinnertime they would all pour out and around the feet of their owner, then abandon him for the dinner bowls.
Except for Jonesy, who would keep stropping around his feet, wanting to neither waste nor end a good chance to purr.
The least hypocritical cat that I have ever encountered. 😛

Oh, hey! My brother also owns a “go away” door mat.
Great sourpusses think alike.
Grace understands Twinkie so well because they are so much alike.
People tend to think cats are more intelligent than dogs, which is actually the reverse of the case. Dogs are loyal, loving, gregarious, and always eagar to join with their masters for a walk or play. Cats are mean, selfish, cunning, cruel, indifferent, and greedy. In other words, we regard dogs as chumps, and cats as being much like humans, so naturally we think cats are more intelligent. Since they are like us they must be the more intelligent animal.
Fake Love for food, Honest Hate when he pukes it up moments after.
Our latest cat was rescued from a shelter. The minute I walked in, he was courting me through the cage door. He still courts us now and then. HE knows which side his bread is buttered on!
@Uncle Bad: Go away doormats are the best, I saw a vampire movie once where the standard “Welcome” mat allowed the vampire access into a house. Made me think about all the different spooky type creatures that might be able to use a welcome mat as a loophole in exchange for an actual invitation. You know, that whole “can’t come in uninvited” thing. Basically a “Welcome” mat is an open invitation saying all are welcome to come in.
We were quite fortunate with our cat, Eliot, in that we just left out dry cat food and he was content. So the love he showed us – and he was very demonstrative about showing his love – was all real. *sigh* We do miss him.
