Big art muckity mucks… when the De Young was reopened in 2005… the opening gala was filled with such people… I suspect that the Shufflebottoms were there. That would have been a fun party! …or would it?

Uh-oh. I have a bad feeling about this.
State Dinner at the White House, you say? Attention everyone, introducing, Randie Salahi.
Is Randi looking for an art patron of her very own?
Maybe the Shufflebottoms would be interested in sponsoring Ryan’s favorite struggling artist?
Might Randi’s art be featured in an exhibit in the Shufflebottom wing at the De Young?
I have to admit to a certain… familiarness (is that a word?) to this rich art supporter thing. Even though we’re a metal refinery, the office portion of the building has about 30 or 40 Chuck Connelly originals hanging on the walls. The owner was a huge patron of his for years and years. I think the value of these painting alone are a couple million dollars.
When I go to the owner’s house to fix his computer (with alarming frequency), he’s got another 40 or so paintings there as well, also worth a few million. Same for his mansion down in Florida and his beach home in Maryland.
Oh… if you’re curious to know, you DON’T really get completely used to it. It’s pretty neat.
Randie, art gala crasher? Hmmm…. might could happen. I don’t know if even Goodwill has something snazzy enough for Randie’s “gala-wear” situation.
Whoa, Pete… That sounds incredible…. do you ever find yourself just sitting and staring at the art when you ought to be working?
Ah… Joe… that is a kind of weird area… would Randie have that floating around in her head when talking to Em now? Does that then become an elephant in the art studio? Could there be a conversation like: “Gee, Rye, you don’t think you could talk to Em for me about a show at…?” These are things I thought about when writing this storyline… more fun to follow.
I hope that, if Randie’s intent is to have Emily as an art sponsor, she handles the situation delicately. Reviewing the relevant strips (I so gotta get my comic a tag cloud!), Emily’s very much aware of Randie’s impecuniosity*, but she’s not aware of Randie’s artistic capabilities.
I think, if I were Ryan, I’d help Randie out with a little money to host a soiree at Randie’s place, with three or four of Randie’s best works adorning the walls (no sense in overkill), but not even mentioning them. Given Emily’s love of art, I suspect there’d be a strong chance she’d take a look and ask about them. Then see how things go from there. Softly, softly, catchy monkey.
But then, I’m not the one holding the reins with this particular horse.
