John Jacob
That’s for you, Pops.
My dad would sing this to me when I was little. It perplexed me whenst I was younger. The “his name is my name, too” part. I now appreciate the song’s silly qualities for what they are.

BRIG!!!!
You and I are of the same mind! For the past week, I have been reminded of a bit from “Pinky and the Brain”, in that Brain suggested that they sing, “John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt!”.
NARF!!
I had to look up the song… Gee, thanks for making me do research, Brig!
(as if I need an excuse, or someone else to blame ;))
Ah, me again… I went on YouTube, so I could hear the tune, and found this 2-year-old boy singing JJJS… So cute! 😀
Ha! I think the third pannel is officially my favorite squidpannel ever. I could hang it on my wall, just as a reminder.
**happysigh**
Joe! THat’s crazy, ain’t it? Yesterday I commented that Jinxy is a nifty cool name… and then I go over to Scapula (to see his thrilling new flash comic!) and there was a comment on THAT SITE from Jinksy (or some variation of the spelling)! I was floored!
Hee hee, Astragali… I forget, you don’t have the same stuff in the UK… although Wikipedia says the song has German roots.
Cosh…. I am glad that you dig the third panel… Ryan is wise-ish, ain’t he? Oh, if you desire something to hang on your wall, I could arrange that.
Brig, I can visualize Dad’s face singing that silly little tune, I know he sang it to make us all smile! A lot of eye rolling went on!
Thanks for the lovely memory, especially today!
Love, Mom
I only rolled my eyes when Dad did the mirror as “Ugly Detector” thing… I think I mighta yelled “AM NOT!” at him as well.
Brig,
“Defective” mirror at Rose is Rose today:

So there is! It appears to be a “getting older detector” … that’s no good neither!
BTW,
If I may say so, I’ve seen your pictures. I think you’ve proved him wrong.
Joe: That comic cracked me up!
Brig: Well, I must admit that it may only be myself, or my family, that isn’t aware of that song. Still, I am amused when I encounter Americans who aren’t aware that the USA has things that the UK doesn’t, and vice versa. Example: I’ve met a few Americans who didn’t know we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving. “Of course not,” I tell them, “we have nothing to be thankful for!” 🙂
I have a friend whose brothers are named John and Jacob, whenever she mentions them in the same sentence we both start singing in unison :)!
Aw, shucks, Joe…
Astragali: You Brits have plenty to be thankful for! You got jam and marmalade!
Meghan: Hee hee… That’s great! I want to sing, too!
There’s jam in the USA, too (or at least, what Target calls “strawberry preserves”, and it’s pretty much the same thing, as far as I can tell)…
Marmalade, though… I miss it.
…digs toe in the sand.
That is… if there was any sand around here. The ground is pretty much frozen solid.
Astragali
Orange Marmalade can still be found at restaurants that serve toast, flap jacks, pancakes or waffles. My mother was big on canning when we were young. Any fruit or berry was fair game. I never had black currant when I was in England(Huntingdon, Somersham, Peterburough and Cambridge area). I do remember having curried lamb a few times. I have yet to find a place here in the states that does it better.
