Jasper Johns
Jasper Johns’ work amazes me. I fall into it. He did a series of numbers … and the number “8” fascinates me and HIS eights are rather nifty.
“False Start” (the painting that the opening title panel is based on) remains a favorite of mine.

Getting rich at eighty is still better than getting rich at dead, though.
Wow, a rich bidder pays 80 million, yeah!
Uh, 53 million, the gallery or auction takes a third (maybe more), yeh.
Uh, 35.5 million, the agent and/or lawyer takes a third, yo.
Uh, 17.7 million, the tax folks take half, hmm.
Uh, 8.8 million, the wife or spouse takes half…after taxes, of course, erk.
Uh, 4.4 million, the little rug rats claim their half, hey.
Uh, 2.2 million, family members, hey are all of you in my family anyway?, take half, drat.
uH, 1.1 million, fabulous parties and travels take half (at least), whee.
Uh, 0 million, a car, boat, home, furniture and clothes takes the rest, uh oh.
Hey buddy, can you spare some change for food and electricity?
Most people might know Jasper from his cameo on an episode of “The Simpsons” which portrayed him as a kleptomaniac (and yes, he did his own voice on the show!).
Ha ha! Yah… “better than at dead”… and his inheritors are doin’ cartwheels.
Stick: and that’s where the “starving artist” part comes in.
Dada: I missed that one. (Now where’d I put that internet?)
