Cafe Terrace, Place du Forum is probably the first Van Gogh painting I feel in love with… The warm cafe scene with it’s starry blue sky and bright yellow lights makes me want to jump into the painting and sip an espresso right there. And so Randie gets to. Lucky gal.
Ryan seems to know what’s going on. I’m expecting it to be revealed that he’s some kind of fairy godmother or something.
I’ll probably be tarred and feathered for this, but I actually like Brig’s rendition more than the (impressive) original…

Brig: A little hacked together wish-fulfillment for ya 😀
Astragali! I absolutely love “the Hacking!” Well done indeed! And, I appreciate your compliment! The painting there was a labour of love… more blotchy than the original… but I am glad you like it.
Ryan is a fairy Godfather of sorts… of coffee!
It’s Randie’s magical artist’s eye that makes the difference between the two images … the thing that always struck me about the original is that the warm, bright awning draws people to the café, but makes it impossible for them to see the stars. They have to make the choice. From Randie’s eye, the stars are not hidden.
I am star struck by Brig and Astragali’s works. Very nice!
I just googled “Van Gogh” and found web sites offering Van Gogh oil on canvas paintings for up to 75% off retail! It’s nice to know that he can still paint despite being dead for over 120 years!
Brig: I didn’t see the “blotchiness” as blotchy. Eye of the beholder, and all that…
