How Do
Randie and I share a love of Picasso’s art. Neither of us cares much for his personality and uber-machoism… but his art sensibilities were of great genius.
These “Art For Goodness Sake” Sundays are meant to be downloaded and printed and stuck up somewheres. Let them be little Art Pushers… Encouragers … or Feel Goodies.
Fabulous quote. I want to keep learning as long as I breathe.
Nothing beats tactile (hands-on) learning.
Yat,
Not to belittle the value of hands-on but I must disagree with you. The best way to learn is to teach.
seven impossible things before breakfast?
BeetlesBane,
Teaching by book or by example? There is value in book learning, but I have seen time and time again that there is no substitute for experience. Maybe your observations are different from mine.
You should NEVER stop learning! Even if you’re 92!!!! or 102!
I think folks employ different ways of learning as we are all very different from one another. I have to write things down to really understand it… and then I can truly SEE it… and then I need to recall it by telling someone about what I just learned and this reinforces it. I also have to POUND it into my head by hearing it, DOING it, and seeing it. So if I use all my senses… ’tis better.
Yat,
From your question, I suspect you have encountered few or no actual teachers. The learner(s) need to gain understanding of the material not simply memorize a list of responses for a standardized test or copy some procedure step by step. Teaching is giving this understanding, not recitation and drill on facts (by book) or demonstration of THE WAY to do something (by example). Imparting such understanding forces the teacher to examine his (her) own understanding of the material, this is why teaching is the best way to learn.
