Holiday Blues
Like Randie, I don’t like the day AFTER Christmas. Suddenly, everyone forgets the joy of the holiday… and the trees begin to go out to the curb. I think I prefer to stay inside… not see any of the sale signs for Xmas Clearance… and savor the holiday, ….still.
agreed. it seems to be the good stuff people hurry to put behind them and the bad things that linger.
The lights and decorations that went up the day after Halloween and are taken down no later than today.
We did family Christmas yesterday and today we are doing friend Christmas so I’ll have an extended Christmas. I too get “blue” when Christmas is over because no Christmas ever matches the pure, magical Christmases of my youth. Those where the snow of my Ohio home was deep, the smells of my mom cooking dinner permeated the house, and I had that true joy of a visit from Santa. I’ll never get that back that Christmas “high” of my childhood and that is what makes me blue.
I know what you mean, but hey! New Year’s is coming right up!
Enid’s back! We haven’t seen her in a long time! And speaking of longevity, yeah, you never know just how long stuff like that will last. They might be like Twinkies and have a shelf-life of 50,000 years or so. 🙂
And heck – I’ve still got 4 of the 7 boxes of Girls Scout cookies I bought last February, and here it’s almost time for the next batch!
My Mom’s a “Thin-Mints” junkie! She gets a Dozen Boxes and puts ’em in the Freezer, at one a month (When she’s been REALLY GOOD!) she ‘treats’ herself. Says she got the idea from Charlie Bucket in “Charlie And The Chocolate Factory” making his Birthday Wonka Bar last for a Month!
It was only the second day of Christmas when you posted that, and it’s only the third day of Christmas with my comment.
There are twelve, you know.
Most people forget that the 12 Days of Christmas occur AFTER the holiday, not prior to. The 12th Day is January 6th; Epiphany, which observes the Magi visiting the baby Jesus in Bethlehem. (A holiday even older than Christmas.)
So we keep our Christmas tree and decorations up until Jan. 6th and wish our friends Merry Christmas until then.
