For those of you who live around the Monterey Peninsula, you know that Marina is usually foggy and cold. Marina Beach, or “Marine Layer” as Randie calls it, is darn-right cold.
While I was at the Farmer’s Market in Kona, I met a gal who grew up in Kona and who made jewelry and the like. She was telling me that she couldn’t wait to get off the island and go elsewhere… travel, move away… go. She seemed somewhat jaded. I found this interesting as many people would GLADLY change places with her.
Gah! That should say “in kona”… Not on kona… Bad cartoonist!!!
Some folks will move long distances to get out of social circles that are less than ideal.
As for others, the destination is not what brings happiness, the journey is. (…or some other 80’s rock band…ha)
Brig:
I added a comment to the Jan. 25th page. Sorry it took so long to answer your question.

stick… true dat. The journey is most interesting, n’est pas?
Lee… I replied to your comment from Jan. 25th… on the Jan 25th page. And thank you for answering… I asked you another question.
I would happily trade roasting my skin off in SoCal for some good ol’ northern fog, thankyaverymuch!

Pacific Northwest, Whidby Island, to be specific!! We had lovely sunny, beach days and cold, foggy beach days. I loved living there, but hubby couldn’t find enough work to support us so now we live eastern side of the mountains. Hot, cold, and damn few beaches!
*lol!* When we lived in Hawaii, our friends and relatives would call us and ask how we were doing. We were doing well, but always added that Hawaii had one drawback. The weather. It was perfect all the time, and it was getting boring. You can just imagine how much pity that got us. 😀
I realize now that Hawaii doesn’t really have “weather”; it just has the same climate year round, with only tropical storms and hurricanes ever counting as “weather.”
Ruth… brrrrr… ya gave me the shivers!
Dada… come back! come back!
Pete… Yah… the weather was pretty consistent when we were there. The only time it changed is when we drove to the south of the island… rain. rain… more rain.
EofO… and ain’t it the truth! Attitude makes a HUGE difference.
I can one-up your story of the girl from Kona, Brig.
My step-brother is several years older than me, back when I was in junior high he was in the Marines and got stationed to Hawaii. To give you a time reference, the ranch where he was renting one of the cottages was featured in an episode of Magnum PI while he was there. 😀 He has a pic of himself with Tom Selleck and a couple pics of the trademark helicopter, they landed it on the ranch!
Anyway, he calls home at Christmas, we tell him about the big snowstorm we just had (Iowa), and he has the nerve … no, the unmitigated GALL … to say that hearing of the snowstorm made him feel homesick. Told him without hesitation I would trade with him in a HEARTBEAT!
Granted, I had just finished spending 3 hours shoveling that snow, so I guess my own perspective was a little skewed on the matter. ::snicker::
