Halloweenie
Well, I hope that Mouse likes Mad Magazine… but really, who doesn’t?
(and yes, I know… It’s Alfred E. Neuman… but I lampoon).
Happy Halloweening to you, My Squiddies!

I dunno, but I kinda think he could’ve come up with something better.
It seems like Mouse would be in costume no matter what. Clever (and profitable for Midge) use of creating a costume, though.
After all these years, though, it seems as though Mouse is the character who has least changed. But in an almost sad way. Mouse is your tragic character, Brig. *sniff!* 🙁
The subject of the historical Alfred E Neuman came up two or three weeks ago. It seems the character was invented in 1895 in an ad for mince pies, and the same image was reused only a couple of years later for the billboard of the play The New Kid. It is unproven but generally believed that The Yellow Kid is Alfred without hair, his hair and eyebrows shaved (like Henry) as part of a common treatment for lice at that time.
My sister and I looked so much alike growing up that we frequently exploited that for some interesting Halloween costumes, perhaps the strangest being the year we dressed up as Cher and Linda Ronstadt. These days I bear an uncanny resemblance to the Avatar Korra – I can cosplay the character perfectly and I don’t even need a wig.
Is MAD really $6.99? I remember when it was 50¢.
Has everyone filled out their Best Halloween Candy bracket?

In a pinch, it’s not a bad costume, really. And hey, who doesn’t mind spending seven bucks for a bit of candy and a laugh?
Thirty-five cents, cheap.
RN… He probably saw the magazine on sale right there at the register and took advantage of the idea on the spot. Sometimes those are good ideas… on the spot… and other times, not so much.
Pete… Mouse is, sadly, a socially awkward fella in many ways. I have often found, and this is a stereotype, that computer people often are. I have a model for Mouse, someone I used to work with a long time ago. Let’s just say that Mouse fits his model. As far as the costume goes… I’m sure he had a good reason not having a costume on him.
Uncle B… I looked into the origins of Neuman while I was looking for a decent photo for reference. Sidetone: I think I ought to have spelled it “Newman” for a better lampoon. Anyhow… I find it terribly interesting… the origin of things. And I am fascinated by anything around the turn of the century.
Yes, Yat… the price has gone up significantly. It’s best to do a subscription. Candy: I think I’m a candy snob now… because I prefer the higher quality dark chocolates… but historically, I do like Milk Duds, Kit Kat, Snickers and malted milk balls. Recently, I did go out of my way for a new discovery… Squirrel Nut Zippers.
I hope, Trev, that Mouse goes home and makes a proper mask out of his investment. You’ll need a whole back of candy to offset the price of his “costume”
Mark… I won’t go into what I believe Halloween candy is WORTH these days. The minuscule pieces of the cheapest possible “chocolate” confections are, in my opinion, near worthless now with reduced size and cheap ingredients. Oops. I did go into it. sorry. -the candy curmudgeon. So I agree… super cheap.
Fifty nine cent candy? Is that 59 pieces of penny candy?
Jack… It is truly what most candy is worth today.
