Gushing
To say that Randie is less-than pleased would be an understatement. Now she has to share Ryan… with an “ogre”… apparently.

This is an interesting week that Brig has decided to spend teaching art in Illinois.
Emily? Let’s see… Emily LaTella? “Nevermind.”
I hate to say this, but this is the first time I’ve actually found Randie to be annoying…
I agree with you, Astragali. I don’t like seeing this side of Randie. I hope she gets over it quickly.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Sesame Street!
Rats… wrong markers….
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Sesame Street!
The ol’ “green-eyed monster” is never attractive. Now will she finally start noticing the signals from her co-worker?
Aaaand…how is this different than when Randy was obsessed with Tim the barista and talked about him non-stop?
I agree with Astragali. Grow up already. Learn to share.
Oh geez. Ryan’s in that ‘cute little’ stage.
“Zeus’s Kitchen”? I don’t understand…guess it’s all Greek to me!
I think we’ve all occasionally been guilty of a double standard to some extent, when it comes to matters like these. Being able to see things from another person’s point of view is something that only comes with great experience and maturity, if ever. We are exactly right in comparing this to Randie’s barista crush. And if she didn’t have romantic feelings for Ryan herself, she needs to acquaint herself with the fable about “the dog in the manger”. And be happy for her best friend’s happiness!
I think the reason why I become so irritated with double standards is that the two things I deplore are arrogance and deceit, and double standards come across as a nasty combination of the two.
DadaHyena: It may just be coincidence, but since Zeus is one of the Greek gods, “Zeus’ Kitchen” appears to be a parody of the popular TV series “Hell’s Kitchen”.
Goodness, I wonder if Brig’s going to review all the comments from this week when she returns from the Internet wilderness… (It’s also a good thing we all play nice, in her absence or otherwise!)
I would guess Brig decided that Randie’s feelings for Ryan were deeper thn she ever realized or admitted to herself. Now he has a crush on someone else, and she has come to the point where she has to face her own feelings as well as Ryan’s. Ryan’s feelings for Randie are less discernable. He has been a protector for a long time, but he is also something of a detatched observer, writing his novel with Randie as the subject. Brig can have a lot of fun with this plot line. Conceivably, it might get a little deep, though, for a cartoon strip intended just for laughs, in which the characters never grow older or mature further.
Yes, I am most amused with all your comments and insights… now that I am back. I’m enjoying the conversation (without my input). Relationships can be complicated. I see Ryan and Randie’s friendship as being in that category. Growing as a person takes lots of these types of situations… I hope you will see growth over the course of the comic.
Speaking of double standards and such… visit some Squid history and see what happens when the tables were turned… I think you’ll find it interesting:
