Groceries
Grocery stores are a pain to illustrate… just so you know.
This toon took me a REALLY long time to do. But I am happy with the results.

I never understood why people buy packet mash. The only thing that’s easier to make than mashed potatoes is a raw spud sitting on a plate.
Because instead of mashing, all i have to do is pour, heat, stir … then serve. 😉
Especially since, in my case, they are to be used for what I call “tuna helper a la king”. I cook up a batch of tuna helper, spread out a layer of mashed potatoes on the plate, cover it with a layer of green beans (french cut … ::thumbs his nose at Ryan::) or peas, top it off with the tuna helper.
Really fills you up, and an average person can make 3-4 meals out of it – I make two. 😀
Some folks also have a knack for burning water and shouldn’t be trusted to try and boil potatoes.
Also some folks don’t have access to things to cook with and in a pinch you can just use hot water strait from the tap and mix it in it’s own container. Sometimes it’s more about making due, then being properly healthy.
And who DOESN’T love sardines?
Sardine season is apon us here in Monterey, ( At least for us commercial fishermen ). And it looks like it’s shaping up to be a good one.
It’s fun to see Randie being so joyous in her giving. Christmas can bring out the best in all of us. Yeah, Randie!
Everyone go “awwww”.
AWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
Instant hot chocolate is extra good this time of year. We collected food at work for a food bank and heard that the hot drink stuff was being put right to work at a warming center they had opened up.
Isn’t canned brown bread perishable? Or do you folks have a different version than us?
Nice thing about potato flakes is that they’ll keep. Given some time, real potatos either start sprouting roots or rot.
Good point on the cooking tools, Pasha. Maybe food banks should also take up collections of potato mashers, spatulas, whisks, ladles, knives, etc.
Who doesn’t love eating sardines? It depends. Are we talking fillets or full-on-fishies complete with heads and tails?
And for those who can’t bear the over-commercialized joyousness of Christmas, there’s always the grief, agony and abject humiliation of Festivus.
Safeway supermarkets make the process even easier. They have lines of special food drive bags already filled with stuff like stuffing mix, mac and cheese, rice, and canned cranberries, green beans and corn. They go for $10 a bag. You pay for it and then put it in a handy collection bin.
Okay, so is canned bread what it’s cracked up to be, or is it better?
Randie is always so generous. Is she soon going to be a recipient?
RAndie is never far from being the recipient of food bank food. BUt they say that the people who give the most are not the rich, but the people that aren’t far from poverty themselves. Ironic, isn’t it?
Canned brown bread, I do believe, has a much longer shelf life… as you can actually buy it on AMAZON!
I found hot chocolate to be a special treat during the holidays… it’s warm, helps with digestion AND it’s great with a little peppermint stick. mmmm. But if you can afford it, get the good stuff! The stuff where corn solids and sugar arent’ the first ingredient.
sardines… What Randie hopes for in her Christmas Sock!
Nob Hill makes it easy, too… for the giving… and they will add to it!
…Bread comes in a can?
