Attitude is everything! Lousy stuff happens….to us all. It’s how you respond to it. “Life sucks, see? I told you!” may let you feel vindicated, but does nothing to move you out of the crap. “Well, that’s interesting, I wonder what we can do with that?” may sound Pollyanna-Ish, but at least it gives you an opening for improvement. And that’s my sermon for today…..
From “How the Song Greensleeves Came to be Written” by Flanders and Swann (recording: “At the Drop of a Hat”). The playwright Kidd and the composer Skelton are discussing what song they can use as a first half closer in their musical version of “Ralph Roister-Doister.”
“There are always the Agincourt songs,” said Skelton.
“But those have been done to death,” said Kidd. “All those ghastly old archers. I just couldn’t face it. You know,” he said, “they’re not writing songs like those anymore.”
Skelton said, “Leave us not be too hasty.”
And Kidd said, “Leave us not. Maybe somebody, somewhere. This chap Anon is writing some perfectly lovely stuff. Nobody seems to know who his agent is.”
Judy… Attitude IS everything. You can got thru life kicking and screaming… or you can go thru life bemoaning everything… or you can go thru life smiling, laughing and cutting up. I choose the latter.
M. Lonie… Anon means you pay no royalties…. use liberally. I like Anon.
