*huh* Randie does NOT seem happy. Because she was proven wrong so quickly? Because she is not a fan of concept? Because she wants Rye firmly (and safely) ensconced in her “best friend” slot? There could be a whole lot in that frown… or nothing at all.
I just heard on news radio yesterday that there are now more children living in non-married couple households than in divorced parents households. My old-fogey sensibilities wonder if that it is perhaps because there aren’t more children living in married parents households that causes additional strain on our social fabric.
Jack… Ryan is a good guy. He’s got a good heart and he’s a very loyal friend.
Jumpin… THAT is the question! Her long-distance boyfriend is living with “his best (girl) friend” … what does one think of that?
Pete… Oh, Randie’s ridiculously mad at Max for intruding in on her life… and she’s for sure miffed that she was proven wrong when she said that nobody listens to Max… Apparently everybody listened to what Max said on this particular subject.
I think my last attempt at commenting got eaten by virtue of having attempted to link some past comics in it. At least, I hope that’s it and it doesn’t have to be approved, or this will look really silly sometime later. =/
Anyway, they were from the old archive and illustrated quite nicely a potential mutual attraction between Randie and Ryan. Also, that they were in that area where even if there is a mutual attraction, neither party wants to act on it for fear of losing what exists. Also, Ryan being a terribly polite Vampire Slayer/Jedi. =)
I’m really looking forward to seeing where this goes! I’ll confess to rather hoping Ryan and Randie end up a pair, they seem like they would do well together. Also, the whole set up has got Bonnie Raitt’s “Something to Talk About” running through my head off and on this morning =)
Also, everyone should go read the old archives. They’re awesome, and Randie has short hair which makes them even more awesome!
Legacy… I apologize for the disappearing comment. I have had a few complaints of other such instances where comments went missing…. and I apologize for the inconvenience to all who have run up against this same problem.
Gossip does DO things… And I love that song! Thank you also, for suggesting the archives. The “older squid toons” button on top of the daily toon will take you to Webcomics Nation, where the very beginnings of Squid can be found. One day, I’ll get it all over on this site… sigh… there’s not enough hours in the day.
Uh, wait! Joe’s Cuppa Joe does not portray itself with an “R.” And, a capital red one at that.
Hopefully Max won’t let Fred know or Randall’s next Voodoo Brew may be double strength.
I’m suspecting that this little visit is a nod to a certain ‘toonist’s neighborhood coffee haunt, but am not a local and so do not know if those pictured are actual staffers at said caffeinery.
Usually folks don’t get upset over disclosures unless they’re trying to hide something.
My best friend is a woman, and we frequently hang out at the same art gallery. Nearly EVERY person there believes we are an item because we are pretty close. There’s not really much to do about it, other than just telling everyone we aren’t ****ing each other.
These things are always weird. I guess that’s why they say “it’s complicated”.
EofO… yah! You found him! He’s such a character, ain’t he?
Stick… Randie isn’t loyal to just ONE coffee joint… but many. JCofJ is where she works… sometimes you don’t want to hang around the place of employment all the time. Besides, JCofJ is a very small joint… not that you’d know that… but it is a hole in the wall in size. Ever been to Miriam’s Coffee in Monterey next to The British Bulldog? (well you can’t now, because it’s no longer there)… but it was TINY… and that was my idea of JCofJ. …. Anyhoo… Rollick’s is my local coffee haunt. So I have a “Rollickin’ Coffee Bean” in the strip as well as “Rollickers” because the aforementioned is a long title…. as is this explanation.
Dada… yah. I hears yah. People just assume that closeness between opposite sexes can ever only equate to feelings of attraction. But we’ll just leave it there.

The last comment in the comic is what I’ve been thinking all along. Pete’s right about Randie’s look. Rye’s a good guy.
What happens when Emily hears this rumor?

I see a certain jolly Scotsman making a cameo here.
