Good Tidings
“Good tidings we bring to you and your kin….” It’s been my mantra this month.
I love the slogan for the Salvation Army… “doing the most good.” Often times, we do not… for whatever reason… we’re too busy, or we’re short on cash… or whatever. BUT even just a smile can turn someone’s day around… why not start there?
Wow, that “good tidings” group could actually lead to some twisted chaos.
You get a large group of people together and have them do good deeds for each other, only not just one a day, but as many as possible within an allotted time. “Doing the most good.” The one who does the most good deeds, wins a mutually coveted prize. But to do a good deed, you must initiate it, rather than just returning a favor. “Do unto each other, before they do unto you.” Everyone would start competing to do the most good deeds first, and thereby locking out their competitors’ good deeds. Only after a while people would realize that they could no longer out good deed each other…so they’d switch over to not-good deeding…..
stick… not-good-deeding would be bad. We won’t talk about “Grace” right now. But trying to out good-deed somebody… That’s not a bad idea… so long as people’s hearts were in the right place whilst doing so.
brig… I was just having some fun with your concept last night. Ideally good deeds should not seek any rewards, as in coveted prizes, and should be neither competitive nor time/quantity based. Just a little commentary on our reality television oriented competitive elimination society. Does make me wonder, though, whether some holiday helpers do their good deeds because they get caught up in the moment of commotion or they expect future “heaven” prizes.
stick: I think, to the recipient of the good deeds, it makes not a whit of difference. I am pro-good regardless of who’s performing it or why. The rest can be sorted out later. In the meantime, someone was fed, clothed, made more comfortable, cheered.
Starting to wonder about Enid…she never seems to age…hmmmmm…
Empress… Nice meeting you at FF, sorry that you left before brig and Judy’s wiggings.
Interesting how Randie is just asking about Enid’s program, carrying on a conversation as it were, without either taking a pledge or washing any dishes.
