Get Out
I didn’t announce it at all, but Ryan is finally finishing his studies at CSUFO. So this is him on campus doing research…. on a FINE day. If you don’t know “Marine Layer”… you get outside while there’s sun… all 15 minutes of it before the clouds roll back in.
In summer, we go outside until about 4:30pm when the afternoon thunderstorms roll in. I’m not sure what that’s called.
I heartily approve of marine layer! Huge fan here!
Yat… it’s called a mostly nice day.
EofO… I like that the marine layer keeps the temperatures from getting too hot. I was out in Garlic City yesterday, and it gets HOT out there. Keep me near the ocean and I’m happy.
This toon reminds me of finding a good study tree at the beginning of university while the weather was still nice.
so the flying randie head is branching out.
Brig: Me no like to wander past the Magic Eucalyptus Line on the 101 N. between, say, March and November–unless it’s for a fun Con weekend in a nice, air-conditioned hotel.
Marine Layer? Are we speaking of the climate phenomena or of Ryan as he lays outside in his coastal town?
And if his belly gets too hot, will he do a temperature inversion and roll so his backside’s up?
EoO, the first time I ever experienced that Magic Eucalyptus line was coming back from San Jose on the back of a motorcycle – it was like running into a brick wall!
I’ve been ricocheted around the world so much and mostly into hot climates with off-the-charts humidity that I prefer to spend my time outside only if it’s overcast, damp, and/or cold.
Although I agree. Hearing your best friend’s voice in your head is a God-send at times!
My mother called the marine layer “nature’s air conditioning”.
This time of year in Philadelphia is when you DO stay inside. Or leave town.
Speaking of which: One of the main reasons we’re celebrating Independence Day on July 4th is EXACTLY that. Philadelphia in the summer was a place of stifling heat and fast-spreading disease. The delegates to the Continental Congress of 1776 were very eager to get out of Philadelphia before the summer fully set in. Wanting to be someplace else is what pushed them to finish up and skedaddle.
And, no, I’m not kidding.
Ep… Reading a book under a tree… it do sound nice… except for the ants. Trees always have ants. But the Squirrels are alright.
anatman… Yes, I think they are providing a new service… to best pals at no charge….
EofO… not even for the Garlic Fest, hmm? Too hot for sure!
Unca Bad… ha ha… the marine layer is certainly something that keeps the temps down… that is the weather phenom.
Rich… it’s amazing the temperature change right there also.
Lady J… I imagine Ryan usually hears Randie’s “Can you lend me a buck for joe?” in his head a lot.
JC… and she meant it… and I love it.
Pete… If you’ve seen the mini-series “John Adams” … you get the visualized version of what you just said. It LOOKED unpleasant recreated. BTW… THAT was a great mini-series and I highly recommend it.
… and where are you going to escape?
Brig;
You escape to the Jersey Shore, of course. Ocean City, NJ for our family. It’s a dry town (no booze), has a 2.5 mile boardwalk, and has been a favorite destination for Philadelphians for decades. (We’re called “shoobies” by the locals. Back in the early 20th Century, families from Philadelphia would take the train “down to shore” for the day, packing up their lunches in shoe boxes.)
Yep, I’ve seen/read/own “John Adams”. Frequently. I’ve even stood on the platform where the Declaration of Independence was signed. That is and EXTREMELY rare opportunity, afforded us when we took the tour while the signing room furniture was removed and under restoration. (99.99% of the time, there’s a railing keeping you about thirty feet from the signing platform.)
Wow! Talk about a tingle up the spine!
I always think I want to stay inside and work. But as soon as I get out it feels really good.
Pete… Shoobies… he hee… My picture of that is a Bee that is also a shoe.
Yah… and John Adams was amazing. I loved the actors who played Jefferson and Franklin.
Jack… I have to force myself at times to go and take a walk in the middle of the day. I usually go all hermit in my office. It’s good to just breath the air and see some real sunshine.
Where I went to school was in a semi-arid region; when it rained, we went outside to enjoy it.
