Freak Out
Do you think Ryan did the right thing? or should he have been up front with Randie from the beginning? What would you have done?

Interesting questions. Ryan is Randie’s best bud, has her trust, yet knows her lack of composure. He’s also trying to gain the trust of Em. Introducing her early on to a crazed, freaked-out, fanatic, wacko might have scared her off. Still, I think he should have eased Randie into the wealth factor by commenting on her being involved with the arts. I would have.
OK, so how’d Ryan come across Em anyway? Do they walk about in the same wealthy socialite circles? Might ol’ Rye be of the secretly wealthy persuasion himself? Hmm.
Could everyone in this strip, except for Randie, be the immensely Rich (with a capital “R”) members of a secret sect, who, like Em, opt to work at low key jobs? The joke would be on her then. Hmm.
they met when ryan went on a trip to a writers convention. if memory serves me correctly.

Stick: If you would be so good as to click the “emily” tag in the right-hand column of this website, you’ll see all of the relevant comics. The very first strip will answer your query.
Erm, that’s the first strip, chronologically. Go to the last page of the results (it’s all going back in time, you see… *cue Wayne’s World ‘doodle-oodle-oo’ effect*)
Astra,
Thanks. Wow, that works great…I was kind of wondering what all those tags were doing there.
I still like my alternate universe, twilight zone, matrix, dream state, dualistic reality concept, though. Too bad it can’t work within the bounds of this strip. Then again, that’s a good thing.
So…..you never answered Brig’s questions…..c’mon, cough up a reply.
If Ryan told Randy about it, that would have shown that the money was an important thing about Emily to him. That makes who Emily is, less important. If Emily had made a big deal out of her wealth, Ryan probably wouldn’t have been attracted to her, if I get Ryan.

If Emily didn’t seem to keen on telling everyone, then it’s Em’s business. I don’t like Ryan’s reason “I’d think you’d flip out thus I will hold information from you.” BUT I don’t think Ryan has the right to tell Randie what Emily herself is clearly uncomfortable sharing.
I think I would have honestly told Randie that, but in the same way that Ryan just did now; I think it works better to have a sit-down upfront so as to avoid the freak-out later when she finds out on her own.
Unless Emily was a rich biatch that Randie needed to be warned about ahead of time…though of course, I seriously doubt Ryan would find that sort of woman attractive anyway…there’s no need to bring it up. That’s nobody’s business.
Red Tail… I like your take on it. Dawnie… you’re right… Ryan would not have found “that type of person” attractive. Chase… Being upfront with people is a very good thing…. but in a way, timing is everything.
I don’t think telling Randie RIGHT up front would have been good either. (Maybe a month in? Dunno… if it’d come up at Thanksgiving… who knows?) Cross the bridge then I suppose.
Dr. Bob & Astragali… yup… they literally bumped into eachother… thanks for mentioning the Cloud there on the right… I love that thing! Get all your related topics there!
Stick… you get that Randie’s a bit emotional and can be wacko at times… that’s an artist fer ya, yah? As Randie’s best pal… Ryan only has her best interest at heart… this much is certain!
As far as “Rich folks” go… most of the Squid Row gang isn’t rolling in mulah. Enid, as an art therapist does pretty alright. But I suspect her “wealth” is spent on others… Ryan spends any and all of his moneys on Randie’s coffee habits.
So, Shufflebottoms crossing the “pond” to visit daughter M (and take in any of the many frequent bay area events) anytime soon? Maybe inviting R&R to a nice dinner out? I’m kind of curious what they’d look, sound and act like. Maybe they’re even aspiring artists.
Randie’s channeling her inner gibbon!
