Explain Em
Emily has turned from a drifting writer whose intent was to not live off her parents’ extreme wealth, to a focused mind bent on her education, but yet not willing to sever the ties of her former situation. Are their paths so different that there needs severing? … or just space? Time will tell.
Not only did he leave Emily, he shaved too!
The honeymoon was over; school became Em’s priority…which she was doing, and writing became Rye’s priority…which he wasn’t doing. Performance envy, anyone? Good thing there wasn’t a marriage, kids and an apartment lease, or at least dog custody, to fight over.
Looks like Ryan was too many miles away from his “inspiration.” (:
Geek trivia for those who remember “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”
The five tones that were played back to the Mothership, equate to: A, E,I,O,U.
If you play the movie, repeat the letters: A, E, I, O, U when each tone is played, you will see what I mean.
“Who needs sanity when you’ve got me and me and us and them and…
What the *@#%$!*^ are you doing with that…?”
While there are certainly conditions that will help a writer for inspiration – Mark Twain wrote while lying down – Ryan may be making a mistake in thinking that his being in London is PREVENTING him from writing. I hope things click for him again now that he’s back home, but it may be a challenge for him to get back to writing.
In my opinion, one of the best ways to work through a writer’s block is to simply WRITE. It may not be very good, but once the words are moving from your mind through your fingers and to the paper (computer screen), it isn’t long before the word jam is broken and the verse goes from moving to flowing.
Heh heh, Pete said…jam.
Joe… It’s kind of a pathetic attempt at facial hair…. In the way way(back in the days of B & W Squid) Ryan grew a rather luscious beard when he went to a Halloween Party as Doc Ricketts. This “beard” just says ” why bother? “….
I don’t know that I’ve ever seen the whole movie thru…. of “Close Encounters”…
Pete: I would imagine that EXTREME writers’ block would be a clear signal that something needs to change.
Mick: Bingo!
Stick: Yah… that’s why long engagements are definitely preferred.
I’m not usually much of a shipper, but you don’t need a house to fall on you to see that Randie is Ryan’s muse, and fated to be the love of his life, no matter how she drives him crazy. The gods have a sense of humor like that.
Incomplete sentences equals, incomplete life. Rye was right to go back.
Kona… only time will tell as to whether or not they are fated.
Jack… It’s funny how, oftentimes, you cannot see stuff in your own life what is plain & obvious to others.
Shmuck…I mean….yeah, he’s a shmuck.
