Enid
Enid is a do-gooding busy-body, for sure. Where does she find the time? What’s the ol’ saying? If you want something done, ask a busy person. Ben Franklin would know. I think he was the original busy body.

But of course you mean “busy-body” in the non-derogatory way, right? Enid strikes me as far too sweet and aware to be a bother to anyone, which is what busy-bodies can sometimes be.
Pete… Of course I mean it in a good way. Although, in the past, many readers have been annoyed by Enid’s “over” activity. I think Enid’s busy-ness isn’t a bad thing at all… I know personally first hand about that “always gatta be doing stuff” personality.
There’s no end for Enid!
we need more enids. one enid is worth more than a hundred couch potatoes.
“To improve yourself is to let the world go by. To improve the world is to let yourself dissolve. To do both is madness.”
For those of us who don’t speak philosophical: Spending time improving yourself means less time for outside events. Spending time doing things for others or the community leaves less time for study and personal improvement. Do both and you will probably never sleep again!
Time my hiney, where does she find the energy to deal with all of those projects?
Dada/anatman… the world would be a much better place if we had more Enids. Get thee back, couch potato!
Lady J… I’m not sure if madness ensues. I think by helping and improving others, you help yourself… that’s what that was saying…yes?
Grammy… I have found that momentum is a wonderful thing. Once you get the ball rolling, it just keeps going.
I think the idea is that you can study your life away and let the world go by or you can get off your butt and do something productive, but you won’t have a head full of stupid factoids. If you try and do both you’re going to drive yourself mad trying to find the time. At least that’s how I’ve read it.
My Pocket Philosopher has devoted himself to advancing himself. He’s a generous and helpful guy, but he doesn’t go out of his way to find things to do to help people. People like you and Dadahyena go out and do things, make webcomics, go places, and share it all with others. If you were to try and devote all day to study AND do those things you’d probably end up in an asylum.
Lady J,
Countering your quote is the classical Greek ideal “Moderation in all things.”
