I can really feel for Mel. Very bad experiences in my childhood showed me all too clearly that alcohol is no real solution. But that doesn’t make the underlying problems less real. People at that point in their lives need a good friend and some help.
To quote a dear friend of mine: “The bottle was my best friend, until I realized that like all my previous best friends it was costing me a lot to keep around and only stuck with me while I had money.”
Yat… You’ll see that Grace has a not-so-awful side. But yah, Randie used to run the other way when she saw Grace coming…. and maybe the bartender isn’t paying attention.
Pete… Alcohol is certainly something that will make your bad decision even “worser.” The more you drink, the worse the decisions become.
RN… word. You hang out with your “friends” and feel alright for awhile, but then you wake up and all your friends are gone… and you’re left “all hung out.”
Trev… that’s a good one. They aren’t “cheap friends” … well, I suppose there are, but they leave you feeling the worst.
Mark… Mmmmmm…. there was that year when Judy and I made the fruitcake with “the expensive” (friend) stuff… that was a GREAT fruitcake.
Grace has got her work cut out for her if she wants to get Mel away from that bar (trust me, for many who rely on alcohol as a “friend”, it’s not an easy thing to overcome).
Here’s hoping Mel can see past the bottle and towards her loving friend!
Dada… Mel has had a real tough life… her friends at the bar aren’t REALLY friends at all! Up until now, we’ve seen Mel “hold it together.” What she needs now is a little Grace.
Grace cares enough about Mel to go out and check on her. It wasn’t so long ago you wouldn’t imagine Grace doing that for someone.
And the bartender should be cutting Mel off.

Happily, Mel’s already got the good friend.
Ah, yes, your “friends”…but these friends will always let you down.
