@Heather I thought the same thing at first! I was so confused cause that’s not like Randie at all. 🙂
Took me a few to realize it was Tokyo and she’s praying for the people over there…At least I think that’s what it is.
Happy Easter, All!
Well, the connection in this toon weighs pretty heavy on the first panel… The priest, in the Catholic Church, leads the congregation in prayer-ing for those needing help … a name or group is presented and the congregation responds with “Lord, hear our prayer.” Randie thinks of those who need peace in Japan… and so she goes to her contemplation place, the ocean and she draws a picture of those who she’d like to pray for… and then sends her drawing off.
Perhaps the jump was too far… and her drawing wasn’t specific enough… The prayer is simple enough… Lord, help those in Japan. She certainly isn’t asking for another tidal wave!
I really dislike seeing Sad-Randie any day, but especially so today, as Easter is supposed to be about rebirth, resurrection, life, family, happiness, joy and celebration.
I also got the same first impression as Heather and Berry, that Randie’s hoping God hears her prayer to swamp Japan. Wow, that wave just towers over Mt. Fuji. Nice sketch, that, it looks like those traditional Japanese wave drawings, but it’s so confusing. No malice is displayed, yet no joy, hand-in-hand assistance, mercy, flying dove with olive branch, nor compassion is shown in that drawing. Possibly there was a second, “after” drawing. Maybe it’s a wave of hope following those earlier waves and earthquakes of mass destruction. Sad too seeing Randie all alone in her dispair, even in the full church, as well as getting marooned on those rocks in what looks like a really high-tide. Hope she’s a good swimmer.
Still, nice connection between the giant ocean wave and the general ocean Squid Row theme. And Randie needn’t feel alone, many people share her sentiments. Sad thing about being depressed is that you think you’re all alone, when others around you feel the same way.
You know, Easter was originally a pagan holiday in honor of the Goddess Eostre who represented fertility. That’s where the eggs and bunnies came from, they were symbols of fertility and sacred to the Goddess. Not trying to offend anyone here, just saying that Easter may mean different things to different readers.
It’s funny… This particular Easter toon has been seen in many different lights… sadness, hope, mixed with some confusion. Perhaps it’s a metaphor for these times. Randie is contemplative… the Easter season is just that. She’s empathetic… and this shows in her face… but she is not hope-less as she sends off the little boat prayer. But Easter, whether you believe or not, is a hopeful time…. renewal is a central theme… and it is my hope that the peace of Easter is shared by all. Alleluia, indeed!
Pash… No offense taken…I hope you had a nice Easter.
I missed out on the Cadbury’s this Easter… (anybody like these as much as I do?) . I am sure I can find some on clearance by now, the day after. … a peanut butter egg would do nicely….
Brig,
Happy Easter.
Congrats on your 100th Sketchbook!
Is she praying for a tidal wave??

Well… her heart’s in the right place…
Thanks, Joe… it feels like a big milestone! Now for my 200th… We up the party situation!
Beautiful.
Happy Easter as well.

Blessed Easter to Brig and all my fellow squidees.
He is risen!
He is risen indeed!
Alleluia!

Nice comic Brig! I like your use of paper!
Aw, now I feel bad that I wasn’t able to make it to church this Easter. Oh well! Onwards to Advent :)!
Yup, I love the Cadbury eggs. My mate got me some new flavors this year. Orange cream, dark chocolate cream, and vanilla cream. Yummy!
Meg: Thank you… & don’t feel bad…. guilt is poopy.
Pash… NO WAY! Dark Chocolate! I didn’t see those! Vanilla Cream!? Whoaaa… dang it.
