Easter
Happy Easter, Squiddies!!! However you choose to celebrate, I wish the blessings of the day upon you!
I love seeing how other countries observe common holidays. In France, on April Fool’s Day, kids color paper fish and try to tape them to unsuspecting adults’ backs. The fish have to do with a prank (fitting for the day) that you try to pull on tourists and non-locals… to buy fish that is out of season. The tradition winds up in chocolate… and is carried on as a seasonal thing (thus chocolate fish at Easter).
The bells are fun… they are often hollow, like a bowl with a lid, and have the choco fish n’ eggs inside. And true to French fashion, they are high quality chocolate.
Since the earliest days of Christianity the fish has been an identifier of a Christian. I am sure the French prank thing grew out of that.
holy mackerel…lol!
happy easter, brig, judy and all squiddies everywhere!
Oh my Cod!
Happy Easter!
La la la lalalalala Happy Easter….
(said Fred Astaire…)
Barb…. (hello and welcome!)… Yes, there may be some of that… but also it has to do with an April Fool’s trick… kids make paper fish and try to tape it on unsuspecting adults…. like a “kick me” sign. THAT’s based on trying to get people to buy fish that’s out of season…. it HAD to do with food, right?
Firedome… I hope you had a lovely Easter. I spent most of it in Santa Cruz… church in the morn… lunch at the Esplanade in Capitola Village… then browsing Bookshop Santa Cruz… then watching Easter Parade with Fred Astaire and Judy Garland… a nice day, indeed.
Joe… Ha! Happy Easter to you!
Judy… Happy Easter!
Happy Easter Everyone!
I had a quiet Easter this year.
I even had Pasta for dinner instead of the traditional ham.
Imagine, Tomato sauce on Easter!
In Canada, well at least the part where I grew up, we celebrate April’s fools day the same way, by sticking paper fish to the backs of other kids and adults. I had this one teacher that would prank the kids with a fake pop quiz.
I don’t remember the date, but my wife and I went out on a fancy dinner dinner date in Germany.
Suddenly we were surrounded by laughing ladies with scissors, and I was missing half of my necktie.
It was a special day of some sort.
Germany. Fun country.
RIP… your tie. I’ve only been to Cologne. It was a very short stay, but it made me want to visit again… I will keep an eye out for laughing ladies with scissors (as I am known to wear ties).
