Do Good Art
This comic came from my rant awhile back about snarkism in the social media world. I feel like Enid here… she says “let us make art and do good in the world.” And why not? The alternative is to do nothing and snark, b*$#@, and moan (and/or do bad things).
The Youth Arts Collective, an excellent organization here in Monterey, has a saying. Do Art. Be Kind. I love this. I have adopted it…. and I will do my best to adhere to it.
Join the Art-o-rama Mamas in their new goals for the new year. More to follow, friends.
Not terribly good at that first part, but I try for the second half. 🙂 As I library worker, I’m more about making sure all art is accessible to all, no?
W McD,
(I was tempted to log in as “Thane of Glamis”)
While I share your anti-censorship inclinations (I have and use a Radical Militant Librarians logo-ed satchel), I always have concerns about “age appropriate” material.
Hear Hear
I feel good! da na na na na nant
I knew that I would!
So good! So good!
W. McDuff… I like librarians a lot! They are most informed persons who like sharing the keys to knowledge!
Beetles… Enid isn’t calling for censorship… She is calling for a change in how we see the world. Lincoln said that if you look for the bad, you will certainly find it. It is there… Why not find the good & celebrate it?
Rob… Smiles.
Jack… I am envisioning seagulls dancing right now. Hee hee.
b
brig,
I think you should re-read both McDuff’s comment and mine. Neither of us is suggesting that Enid advocates censorship; rather by opposing censorship, we are insisting that the results of her advocacy be available to everyone.
Yeah, age appropriate is important. Granted, I read a lot of things I probably too young for growing up. Isn’t that part of being a teen?
But yeah, I don’t think ten year olds should be reading 50 Shades. Actually, from what I’ve heard of the writing and plot, I don’t think anyone should be reading 50 Shades, but to each their own…
I am TOTALLY on board with this. If you were to go to my facebook account, you’ll find I do my level best to not be snarky. It’s gotten to the point that I spend virtually no time on social media. *bleh!* to all the snarkiness and cynicism! *BLEH!* I SAY!!
Beetles.. gotcha.
William… I agree that there are inappropriate stuff out there not intended for kids. I worry for all the kids whose parents aren’t doing their jobs… they watch scary tv shows and scary movies and play violent video games. I worry for those kids. Like books, they need monitoring, too.
Pete… Positivity and Non-Snark… It is what I aim to “put out there.” I think it needs to be a movement. I am starting one… here.
