Day One
I just love all the paperwork you get when you start a new job. Mounds of store policies, procedures, and expectations.
When I first started at Dizneyland, there were all kinds of Dizney videos to watch with characters acting out the procedures and such. It was not a normal working situation… and was actually pretty fun… it was a 3-day event training situation.
That’s so you can’t say that nobody ever tells you anything.
Yat… Yah… it covers your butt… and you can’t say, “well, nobody told me.” Did you read the 100 page manual? All there in black and white. Gah!
Speaking of Disney, I have been trying to remember the name of an old Disney movie about rescuing a family of little people, (um fairy’s or gnomes or some such, not little people as in dwarfs). Any of you fine folk remember any such movies other than Darby Ogill (spelling?) and the little people?
*hehe* Mickey Mouse U. Yep! I attended that, too.
The best skill I picked up there was cleaning bathrooms. Depending on which Main Street detail I had, I could clean as many as a dozen bathrooms. Between the training and number of times I did it – even though it was less than 20% of my work, I can STILL clean the church bathrooms faster than anyone and have them twice as clean!
Remember, Randie! Clean a bathroom from top to bottom, and in that order. And always ask yourself, “Is this what Walt would want to see?” (They taught us that, too.)
Never mind my question, I did a Google search for movies about rescuing gnomes and found the tittle. It was a movie called the Gnome-Mobile.
Pasha: Well, the was the 1997 movie, “The Borrowers”, but that was by Universal. Disney distributed Hayao Miyazaki’s “The Secret World of Arriety”, but that was only three years ago.
“The Gnome Mobile” is probably the one you’re thinking of. It’s from 1967, and starred Walter Brennan and the two children from Mary Poppins; Matthew Garber and Karen Dotrice.
Pasha… that film got by me. Glad that between Google and Pete, you have an answer. I am curious now… about HOW the gnomes looked.
Pete… of course Diz would have a proper way to quickly and efficiently clean a bathroom… the Dizney way…. just as they had a proper way to take peoples’ money (and count back change). It, no doubt, has made how you clean your bath a different experience.
Brig, you can look up screen shots from the Gnome-Mobile fairly easy to see the way they looked.
Yeah Pete, it was the Gnome-Mobile that I was trying to figure out. I saw it once when I was a kid and my mate and I recently had a conversation about old movie’s with fairy’s and gnome’s and stuff and it came to mind but I couldn’t remember the name of it.
Walter Brennan actually played two roles in the movie, he played the grandfather of the two children and he played the part of the old gnome. Must have been fun filming the shots where the two characters are talking to each other, brings a whole new meaning to talking to yourself.
That was also well before the whole green screen situation as well, so it’s interesting to see how they actually managed to mesh the scene’s so well with gnome’s and humans.
