Aw, its cute that Randie’s got a pet name for Mouse. Although I would have thought him to be more platinum blonde than titanium white. Uh, what’s he to do? She ran out of her Mouse, but he’s gotta stay at the store. Storeroom? Uh, why is she holding that tube o’ paint? Camouflage?
Pete… It’s fun to go to work and play if you’re allowed. I and friends have worked at restaurants that specifically stated and put in writing that employees are not permitted to visit the premises when not working.
Yeah, they’re not too keen about people coming here on their off time to play. What with the armed guards, molten gold, and what not. (No kidding.)
BUT… when I worked at Disneyland – and Brig will back me up – it was a lot of fun to come to the Park on off hours. When I worked there – a few years before Brig did – you could sign yourself in at any time. And you could sign in three other people once a day, every day of the year.
stick… I’m pretty sure MOUSE IS a nickname… so a nickname for a nickname would be just silly… In any case… showing up on your day off isn’t a problem unless you interfere with work…. OR work starts asking you questions on your day off… “Randie, can you get the phone?”
Pete… when I worked there you could go anytime… but I don’t recall being able to sign in people on any day… I think there was a limit. I do recall every so many months getting free paper tickets to keep or give away. It was a fun place to work… I’m sad I didn’t stay long enough to work there during the holidays…. Xmas would’ve been fun.
brig… just musing on some chuckles. The Monterey restaurant I worked at was part of what is now the Portola Plaza Hotel. That hotel is connected to the city’s convention center and co-hosts many activities and shows, including my prom. Not only were we not allowed by our employment contract to be seen at the restaurant, we could not step foot anywhere in the hotel facility without advance notice or their axe would drop.
pete… Molten gold. Wow. I bet they’d be surprised if some of it was secretly poured into Mickey Mouse molds.
i have worked at my place of employment for a long enough time to have developed what i call a “fan club”…those customers who shop frequently enough that they recognise me, even when i am in mufti. it is because of that i am loath to go to my place of employment on my day off…i KNOW i am going to run into someone who recognises me and will want to ask me questions…never mind the fact that i don’t have my work shirt on. i could be wearing a hawaiian shirt and my old o.p. shorts and someone will stop me and demand my attention.
this is why i shop at a competitor’s store (unfortunately, i’ve been recognised there, too) if i have to get home repair parts on my day off.
Hey, Brig… Yeah, when I worked there, Disneyland was still using the ticket system (A,B,C,D, & E tickets), and were just switching over to the Passport, a wrist tag that gave you unlimited rides. Because of that, the Main Gate Pass was good for three guests once a day. After they went to no tickets or passports, they changed the Main Gate Pass to four or five times a year.
Those free paper tickets (in my day) were books that had admission and ten “E” tickets. They gave two or three around Christmas to give out as presents or to give to people to come in and do Christmas shopping.
It’s a lot more fun to go to work when you go there for play, isn’t it?
