Slow cookers. They are awesome. You put ingrediants in and five to ten hours later food comes out! 😀
Although tonight I made about 150 mini cookies. Snickerdoodles, peanut butter with Skor topping and chocolate chip with mini M&Ms on top. Test batches for an auction I’m contributing to the end of next week. 🙂
My mate is an awesome cook, though he’s a “Dump style” cook. Which means he doesn’t go by recipes he just “dumps” in whatever he thinks will taste good together. He seasons with a pinch of this and a glug of that, and the food always comes out tasting great. Only problem is that the things he makes rarely taste the same twice.
He makes the most awesome spaghetti sauce from scratch, and it drives me completely nuts! He doesn’t always use the same ingredients, and sometimes it tastes better than other times and if I find one of his sauces that I absolutely love, it makes me completely sad because I know that it will never taste exactly like that again.
I actually made him write down exactly what he put into a type of soup he makes that he calls “Slum Gold” meaning gold from the slums, or really good soup from very poor ingredients. I absolutely love the stuff and if he doesn’t make it exactly like he did when I made him write down the recipe I will go and make it myself.
McDuff… wow… that’s a buncha cookies! You logged some hours in your kitchen this weekend! Cookies really do make everything happy.
Duff/Pasha: And I love the crock pot for sure! I do a turkey chili in mine that I just love… I am more of a dump cook with that recipe… it’s all to taste and I’ll throw different stuff in depending on how I feel.
Yat… Yah… if it’s just me, I barely bother. I don’t like the prep for just one. I might get as elaborate as frozen veggies on the skillet.
Robert… sometime ignorance is bliss. I was in Paso Robles this weekend and ate out a lot… no fast food though. I rarely, if ever, do FF anymore.
Pete… yes, and you make an awesome fruitcake, too!
Z… (welcome!) wow! That’s Grace all the way! She’d most likely watch that and learn from it!
Heh, my Joy of Cooking books have been glued back together after many years of use causing the pages to fall out – and are held together when not in use with rubber bands.
I also have a moldering copy of The White House Cookbook, from way, way back when.
LOL!! Poor Randie! This reminds me of the time I was going to visit my bachelor son who resided in another state. Before I left home, I ordered all kinds of cooking tools. I didn’t tell him I was loading up his kitchen with the items I knew I would need when I got to his apartment. The slow cooker and cookie sheets came in handy when I arrived! Funny, I didn’t order anything he already had….
Z, I’m not Vegan or into black metal but I absolutely loved The Vegan Black Metal Chef! Thanks for sharing. I may have to try the truffle oil brussel sprouts without all the… you know, black metal… stuff.
Grump… I have a few cook books, they look so pretty on my shelf. “The joy of cooking” is there as well as some others… But I let the cooking joy to Judy… She enjoys it more than I.
Dr fuse… Yes, I should do an homage to crock pot toon!
Pash….I did find the videos entertaining… But a bit loud for my taste… If someone were to do this in electronic dance music or disco… That could work…. Jazz wouldn’t lend itself I feel.

I cook, but it’s nothing fancy. Just enough to feed myself.

Work in the fast food industry for a while. That’ll cure you of any fear of cooking…or desire to eat out…
I looooove to cook!

The Fannie Farmer Cookbook. All the basics, and you can make your own variations from there.
