Conundrum
Karma always comes back around, don’t it? The way you treat others has a way of coming back to you.
Would you tell Randie, if you were in Mouse’s shoes?

Would you tell Randie, if you were in Mouse’s shoes?
If Mouse tells Randie, then Randie will spill the beans, either accidentally or on purpose. No point in making things even more complicated.
My advice? I’d have Mouse talk to Carol and maybe convince her that telling everyone is for the best. Why? Partly because she should feel she owes it to her employees, but also because Mouse will feel better. And Randie will probably work better at her job and even get the word out to her art-y type friends to spread the word and do one last buying frenzy.
And Grace… well, Grace is Grace. And, honestly, if Grace DID quit, where’s the loss? Sure, more hours for Randie to cover, but more pay before the end, too.
Pete… if Grace quit, it would mean that Mouse and Randie would have to cover her hours… and… wait, since they have no holiday hours… maybe…. No, no… Randie would not do well working overtime, and Carol can’t afford that… and … well, such a conundrum.
I was so lucky in that I found my current job just before my previous one went out of business, whew! I feel for those who have lost a job because I know how fortunate I am with the one I have.
I can’t see the Mouse going head-to-head with Carol. He’d be better, if he’s going to tell, to just do so and let dem chippers fly…what’s Carol gonna do? Fire them? I hardly think so. NO WAY would I not tell. Then again, no way would I not figure out the deal, with all those glaringly obvious signs.
Seems that Mouse loses either way. Warn the gang and the resulting panic run will likely spell a quick end for the art mart. And should a buyer be found, whistle-blowing Mouse will pay. On the other hand, keep mum and both Randie and Grace will hold him responsible for their sudden lock-out.
So tough. Carol is ownership, Mouse is management and the girls are labor. He’s caught in the middle. Ah, but Midge is not.
Heavens yes. IMO, the whole ‘we’re not going to give you warning that you need to find a new job because you might find one SOONER THAN WE WANT YOU TO’ is a load of self-serving BS.
What Mouse needs to do is grow a backbone and take Randie and Grace into Carol’s office and tell Carol that since the information “could not leave the room” he has brought the employees to her so she can tell them herself. I mean what is she going to do fire him? Mouse more than likely won’t have a job at the end of the month anyways.
Agreed – Carol forfeited the right to consideration with her decision to surprise her employees with ‘Merry Christmas! You’re fired!’
Merry Christmas Carol! Enjoy working the store by yourself!
There have been enough hints that Carol is also the store’s main problem – flakiness and the ownership of a business is not a good combo.
If I were in Mouse’s shoes, I would invite Randie out for lunch, tell her the news, and tell her that this requires the upmost discression on her part. ( she must not tell! ) Although, if she were to quit, Mouse would pine away without her.
I remember my wife had a boss who said, “I don’t want them to quit until I don’t need them anymore.” As it was, everyone thought he was lying when he said there wouldn’t be anyone let go and they quit anyway. I couldn’t really feel sorry for him.
