Con Nerd
Well, it’s that time of year again for Sandy Eggo Comic Con… the huge, wall to wall, over the top, and overly peopled comics convention. Calling it a comic convention anymore, some say, is false. It, I’m sure, WAS in the beginning.
Melvin is sure to make it known that HE is going… are any of you?
The only time I considered going to ComicCon was back in 1987, when it really WAS a comic book convention. We lived in Phoenix and owned a comic book store. Going would have taken me from the store, however, so we stayed home.
Once I’m a rich and famous novelist and get invited to go… then I’ll consider it.
Pete… I’m not sure exactly WHEN SDCC strayed from its original comic book intention and became a Hollywood/SCI-fi/nerd fest of the highest order, but I’m sure it was a great venue back then. Don’t get me wrong, the fact that there is interest now in the comic book genre is wonderful… but when things go absolute commercial and making money is the priority (in any venture)… it’s when I question the institution itself.
I’d like to go one of these days just for the heck of it.
I remember when I was in middle school, There was a comic convention at P.G. middle school. I’m not sure who put it on, but there were some big names there. This happened two years in a row, then disappeared. Such a shame, because it was good!
mischug… It would be an EXPERIENCE for sure.
Squid… THAT would’ve been fun… and to think it happened in PG… or Cypress Grove.
if i were still on the old ship, i would already be in san diego. i was on the midway out of japan in the early eighties.
Sounds like a bunch of squawking to me.
Is my browser the only one that is showing two copies of the same strip one on top of the other? I just spend a lot of time looking for differences in them btw…just incase it was a test to see if we’re paying attention
Well, I’m getting two of them too! Anybody know what’s up here? I’m using Mozilla, which has been so screwiy since the last update I had to uninstall and reinstall it.
anatman… Navy, yes?
Jack… ha! Yes, indeed!
Heather & Ruth… You are not seeing things. Sometimes the cartoonist in charge of this site lets Harold “help” with things. He originally posted Wednesday’s AND Friday’s toons and so as a quick fix that didn’t cause TOO much trouble, I simply replaced the Friday toon that shouldn’t have posted at all, with another Wednesday… so double vision was sort of on purpose … but not really. My apologies.
There’s only so many times comic/sci-fi/fantasy fans can refer to themselves as “nerds” before it becomes tiresome. To some, ‘nerd’ is a badge of honor, while to other it comes across as a self-deprecating attempt to be likable by bashing yourself and personal interests.
Nerdy nerdy nerd-nerd-nerd!
