Chutes And
I never played Chutes and Ladders much as a kid. I did play: Sole Survivor, Superstition, Battleship, Mouse trap, Monopoly, Clue…
What was your favorite game?

My favourite is a little fifteen minute bidding game called For Sale. My recommendation for you, though, well, I think you’d like Dixit.
Chutes? They were snakes when I was a young’un.
I am a master at Battleship!
I think my favorite was Uno. I would have enjoyed Sorry! more, but my little sister ALWAYS won.
My fave was probably Clue. I say probably since I wasn’t all that rigid about game choices. In college we had Monopoly sessions with horribly convoluted deals, we had to keep notes of them. Since I run chess tournaments, my current coice is pretty obvious.
Still better than Candy Land, but Connect 4 rules the roost.
I should have mentioned my favourite as a young lad was HeroQuest. Dungeon Stomping, rrrargh! (Yep, I’m a geek. :D)
Ha ha… you guys are board game fans! YeeAH! Some of these I’ve not heard of… HeroQuest…? Dixit? We
These days, I play Scrabble. And there is a ritual in my circle, that around New Year’s, there’s a Win, Lose, or Draw game… (cartoonists are coveted in such competitions of drawing skill). I would play more Monopoly, but there’s a SOMEONE who is a viscous businessman… and whomps the heck out of everyone…. sigh. It’s like playing Ryan at Scrabbled.
I loved Monopoly. – Go Directly to jail, do not collect $200.00
Calvinball!
Lee… yes, it is a remarkably fun game…
b. flipper… ha! never played it. It’s more of a contact sport, really.
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/39856/dixit Dixit is a beautiful game where you have one person give a clue and place one of these neat art cards on the table. Everyone else puts a card in, and you shuffle the deck. Everyone tries to pick out your card from this deck. The cluegiver gets three points if some people pick the right card out, but not everyone or no one. If everyone or no one picks the cluegiver’s card, they all get two points, and the cluegiver gets zero. If some people pick the cluegiver’s card, but not everyone, they get three points. You also get a bonus point if people pick your card when not the cluegiver. Then pick up a new card to add to your hand and continue.
And they’re awesome, art-filled cards, really interesting. 🙂 Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFsiBbopszI for a video review.
Fun fact: Every game of Monopoly MUST end in a huge fight.
Hi Ho Cherrio? Parcheesi? Mouse Trap? Operation?
No, I’ll say ‘Pass the Pigs’. It’s like a children’s dice game, but played with the pigs from your old plastic barn yard set.
Growing up, my favorite game was baseball. During summer vacation, I’d be out of bed at dawn, dressed and at the playground for a pickup game that lasted until dark.
As for indoor games, it would be pinochle, which my parents taught us. If we’re just talking board games… I won about 95% of the hundreds of times I played Monopoly, but it was too boring. I think my favorite board game was whatever Mom & Dad pulled out of the closet on family game night.
W. McDuff… Wow… that does seem cool. I like the illustrations on the cards. Thanks for the links. I also like the overview… that’s a really good way to get familiarized with a new game… and certainly the way to go if you want to see the game in action (sorta) before you buy it. Bookmarked.
Uwg… that is the unwritten rule… as well as free parking gets you the loot.
Unca Bad… OOOoooo…. plastic farm animals…. fun! This makes me wanna go make up silly games with toys I have around the house/office. Toys, art supplies, etc….
Pete… I like watching spectator baseball. It means spring/summer.
We were not a card playing family. And I always felt like I could never “get” the rules straight. I was definitely more of a Monopoly, Clue, and a game involving digging out of a dungeon. I wish I could remember the name of that game.
The Dice Tower is a great resource, as they review everything, and have been doing so for years. The other resource I recommend for people who are curious about new games is TableTop (http://tabletop.geekandsundry.com) with TV’s Wil Wheaton as host. He does a great job of explaining, and chooses a lot of games that are fun, approachable, and he explains them well.
I’m a huge board game geek at the moment. There just some great games to play with your friends out there. 🙂
My favorite boardgame is Clue, followed by Kill Doctor Lucky – the game that comes before Clue, thematically… you just want to be alone with the Doctor long enough, with your weapon of opportunity.
‘It was Me, in the Armory, with the Cannon!’
‘Sorry old chap, you forgot the powder, but don’t worry… now that it’s My turn he is being done in on the Gallery, with the Rope’…. 🙂
My character is typically named Colonel Dijon-Grey 😛
The Auld Grump
McDuff… It seems to be so… What a great excuse for getting pals together, having fun…. maybe drink some wine… eat some cheese…
Grump… WHa-wha? Is this silly or real? No… silly Col. Dijon! ha ha!
