My mom’s birthday is next month. Since it and Mother’s Day are typically about 2 weeks apart, it makes sense to take care of both of them in one shot. I typically treat her and dad to dinner someplace. Sometimes we’ll go to a museum or something.
I make sure that I have my yearly calendar made up with all important birthdays marked well ahead of the actual events. (I also make a note of which birthdays they are so I know how old everyone is.) I have memory issues, (obviously) and Alzheimer’s runs in my family so I started keeping track every year with the calendar just in case.
I always remember my mom’s, but for some reason I still forget my step dad’s till long after the fact. I don’t know why I have such a hard time remembering his, I mean he’s been my dad since I was 13. After 32 years you would think I would remember it by now. But I have memory issues… wait, did I just say that?
uwg… yah… there’s the closeness of the celebrating… but I feel that we need more days of celebration… so let’s break them up a bit…. OR… two solid weeks of constant cupcakes, birthday songs, flowers and drinking… could be fun.
Jenn… seems fair… although you are missing out on the fun parties…
Leo… In the Squid vaults there’s a Randie cartoon exhibiting exactly this idea… I will have to see if I can dig that up and post a link!
Gramy P… yah… you said that. Hmmm… maybe you need a fat Sharpie marker and when you get your new calendar…. blacken in that day… maybe with red… that’d be better…
hmm. all roosters. not a well planned nightmare chicken farm.
Been there, done that! (three weeks ago – OMG – I forgot to get the key!!!! – Brig, you heard that story already!)
anatman…. I was inspired by a photograph I saw…. I liked the repetition of all the red and white.
Rich… yeah… did the chickens remind you of what you forgot, though?
Um, well, does it count of I was EATing chicken at the time?

Hm, I don’t think I’ve ever known my mother’s birthday. Which is fair I think, since she never remembers mine either……
My Godmother is (in)famous for sending out Birthday Cards 2 or 3 weeks AFTER the occassion. (We call her the (late) Aunt Ann!)
