Changing Tune
This toon came about because I found out that Stray Cats frontman, Brian Setzer’s birthday is today. While I was not much of a Stray Cats fan in the 80’s… I did dig Blondie & the Go-Go’s…

…and Devo, Tommy Tutone, Bonni Tyler & The Bangles? 🙂
Back when there was a chance we were going to buy a campground in Colorado, I’d often daydream what music I’d play. (A lot of Sons of the Pioneers, and Riders In The Sky.) But I knew exactly what would be the final song each day. A contradance band in Massachusetts named Swallowtail played a beautiful rendition of “Josephine’s Waltz” on their CD “After The Dance”.
I bet we all have favorite songs we’d play at perfect moments.
If they really wanna go 80’s, grab your tapes.
When I in my early 20s, my sister found an old tape of 80s hits. We spent the rest of the day dancing around like idiots 😀
McDuff… I, originally had Devo in the last panel… but Bananarama seemed more silly.
I had an odd array of music that I listened to in the 80’s. I discovered a lot of music at my local library, and so I went thru some “stages” of music… Beatles, McCartney, Elton John, The Beach Boys, Michael Jackson, random Reggae even. But there was Journey, random 80’s hits tapes… Blondie, Def Leppard… I can’t say that I LOVE 80’s music. I actually prefer Disco… but what can I say?
Pete… Wow…. I have no idea what you have just said musically … which makes it even more interesting. I love many forms of music… classical, jazz… so that sounds fun.
Jack… you go a bit on the RAWKn side… Heavy guitar, yah?
chug… dancing is super great exercise, non? I love to dance, but I don’t dance well with others in a close range (like anything involving a partner)… left feet… but I can dance by myself just fine!
(feigned indignance mode) i’ll have you know that ’60’s top 40 playlists were filled by more artists than the byrds and the mama amd papas. there was also mowtown and british invasn.
seriously, though, i worked at kdon whole those very ’80’,s attisyd were
on the chart
s.
I’ve already told stories about working terrible retail jobs that had a five-song loop, so I’ll just say that I hope Mouse has a really good, varied collection of music to play.
Even Bananarama can be hard to handled if it’s all that plays during the workday!
i knew i should’ve waited until getting back home to post a message…i’ll clarify things then.
i find that the older i get the older the music i like. i’m back to tallis and picking up steam. i expect to be listening to two rocks banged together soon.
Ah yes, Devo. Practically my homeboys. (They’re from Akron, just north of Canton where I grew up, and near where I live now.) Plus they had a little more going on in the graymatter department than a lot of the other popular bands of the day.
firedome… ’tis true. I was mining old pain on this toon… We used to hear the same music over and over again at my art supply retail job. What sticks out in my mind the most is the Mamas & the Papas… GAH! Insanity… listening to THEIR music used to drive me just a little nuts. Sigh… I’m glad it’s over.
Dada… you feel my pain. You know. I also worked at the Dizney store… get THOSE stuck in your head and… “heffalumps and wwwoooozles!” GAHHHHH!
anatman… I’ve certainly broadened my horizons as I get older, too… But no matter what I do, I can’t grasp the death metal. Nope.
uwg… I’m picturing their hats now. We used to skate at the roller rink all fast when “Whip It” was spinning in the DJ booth.
‘Like an idiot’ is the ONLY WAY I dance. 😛
chug… would I have pointed and laughed at you in middle school? I actually could dance in those days… I stopped dancing in public, though when I got heavy. Now that I am not heavy, I should really dance more.
I would list all of my favorite 80’s music, but that would fill up the entire page….how rude would that be? 🙂
