Carol
I was in a church choir once. It involved singing during Midnight Mass… there was lip syncing and certainly there was off-key singing on my part.

singing? while sober? brrr.
anatman;
The cider might be hard.
It can be done, anatman… I’ve done it once or twice (that time in church)…
Beetles… It HAS to be… warm the cockles!
I’ve been in our church choir for 25 years now. And I was singing in parts as far back as 1st grade. Benefits of a Lutheran upbringing. Yah, we Lut’rans are big into the music, you betcha!
Heh, I can handle maybe one song–and then my throat’s done. Sorry, anything more and I start coughing. Nothing medical, just how it is. Is anyone else that way?
They’re all going to stand outside Grace’s house and merrily sing until she goes insane (well, more so).
Dada’s got a great idea–caroling at Grace’s! HA!
Pete… Singing is fun! … and funner with imbibing… you don’t notice the mess-ups so much… or rather, you don’t care.
A Rat… Not me. I love singing and so does my throat.
Dada… NICE! We’ll meet at YOUR house and wind our way to Grace’s.
EofO… you bring the eggnog and rum!
I was choir, and my girlfriend’s mum was choir.
I managed to drag my girlfriend Christmas caroling last year, and she is dragging me, this year. 🙂
Right now we are going over Down in Yon Forest – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiCOrwSgV0k
But the one I think that we do best is The Holly and the Ivy.
The Auld Grump
Grump… That is really beauteous… in a haunting sort of way… I do LOVE The Holly & the Ivy. But King Wenceslas is my favorite!
My girlfriend’s first reaction to Down in Yon Forrest was that it was the creepiest carol that she had ever heard – so I played The Wife of Usher’s Well for her – a Christmas song with the revenant dead….
For a somewhat obscure Scots song, there are a lot of versions of The Wife of Usher’s Well – from Roberts and Barrand to Hedy West, to Steeleye Span….
Here’s one of the Appalachian versions – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCHNJi5tCmM (And, hey! Look! Puppets!…)
The version that I know is closer to that of Robert and Barrands.
I had a lecture written up about King Wenceslas – who had a strange history. (A Duke in life he was made a King posthumously by the Holy Roman Emperor.)
Luckily my girlfriend told me that it was the kind of lecture that I find fascinating, but that makes other people cross their eyes…. (This is in a song and lecture set that is already over its allotted time… and for a class of junior high students at that….)
The Auld Grump
Oooooooo! I love caroling, and Good King Wenceslas is one of my top twenty!! Beautiful music, good friends, celebrating the best of life that is priceless and wishing Jesus a Happy Birthday( I think he’s 2009 this year but I’ll have to ask him), and did I mention the beautiful music.
Mid winter’s not a happy time for everybody, and serious Blues and depression are…really painful. I just lost a long-distance friend to suicide. But when people start caroling together those gorgeous hope-filled words, it just transports me.
Merry Christmas all o’ ya!!
Hello, bscruffy! It is amazing how music can transform… It helps to make our season bright… Worship, enjoyment of the holiday, and celebration… Joyous! It makes ya just wanna burst into song! So what’s in yer top ten?
& a most Merry Christmas to you!
Why do I have the sinking suspicion that Ryan’s interest in Squish just took a nosedive?
