Butterfly Town
Pacific Grove is also known as Butterfly Town…there is a grove where the monarch butterflies come to winter and chill out. It’s a beautiful sight. And it’s lovely to see these gorgeous flutterbys floating around the peninsula.

I once worked a wedding ceremony in Monterey where the bride and groom released a bunch of Monarchs. Only some of them flew away and a bunch of them ended up getting stepped on by the guests. In PG that would have been a criminal offense.
Today’s Interesting But Only Tangently Related Plus Also Nearly Useless Fact:
The monarch butterfly and the viceroy butterfly look very much like each other. (Google it to see how close.) The theory is that the viceroy is actually mimicking the monarch. Why? It seems that the viceroy is very tasty to birds, while the monarch tastes very nasty. So to “hide” from being eaten, the yummy viceroy disguises itself as the yucky monarch.
J. Toy… Oh, that DOES seem wrong. Right now the Monarchs numbers are dwindling due to the scarcity of milkweed and the presence of pesticides. Monarchs and bees really have it hard right now.
Pete… Interesting fact! It’s almost like somebody planned it like that! It’s an mimic butterfly rather than a Monarch butterfly! I like the name Viceroy… it kinda sounds like they kiss up to the monarch a bit. Good play on names… whoever named them.
Nice paint effects in the third panel background!
@ Pete
Mimicry is pretty common with insects. Fore example, there are many yellow and black striped insects that are not bees. But I’ll bet you’d keep your distance, just the same.
