Bricks
Sometimes I feel this way. I put a ton of effort into a project only to get a luke-warm response. It happens to all of us at one time or another. I’ve gotten to wearin’ a hard hat. It helps.

Sorry, everybody, for the slow posts…. It’s not me! “Missed schedule” is a stupid message I am getting more often from Word Press… sheesh!
All is forgiven, Brig! *sign of the paintbrush over the computer*
I know about indifference being the worst of all. And the importance of a hard hat and thick skin and positive attitude. So why, after getting lots of encouragement, compliments, and good reviews does one “meh” cancel it all out?
“Not fair!” I cry aloud. “NOT FAIR!”
You’ll get over it pretty fast. The best thing to do is NOT stare at the potential customer intensely with a sweaty, psychotic glare (they might not buy).
Pete…. Ha! I like that… sign of the Paintbrush… is there a mumbling prayer as well?
Yah… Meh makes me crazy… conversely, I get so jazzed when someone digs my work… I want to hug them… but that’s kinda creepy.
Speaking of creepy, Dada… yah, I have conned next to folks who are aggressive… and it seems to work for THEM… I’m not pushy… but maybe I should get out from under the table and place stuff in people’s hands.
That’s a tough pill to swallow, Randie. Best to just look away.
At least the guy picked up the zine and gave it a look. Getting someone to just try a product or look at your art is a major accomplishment. Those arrows are doing their job.
Dada… and stifling a maniacal laugh while rubbing your knuckles in evil delight over helplessly hooking a fresh, new addict, er…faithful patron.
brig… Successfully pushy people are so because it is part of their personality. If you’re not the pushy type but force yourself to act that way, your results will likely be awkward, comical and embarrassing, but not successful.
The Muppets (yesterday’s comments) were both cute and funny, only Mitt is now out to cut off Big Bird at knees (first presidential debate).
Aw, that’s rough. I always feel weird when I’m at a zinefest or something and the artist/writer is right there. Even if I love your work, I don’t have a massive fun stuff budget!
Smu… Good point. I wonder if Randie will be happy if folks looking at her zine just laugh at its comics even if they don’t actually purchase them.
Jack… it’s like a car crash…
stick… I love maniacal laughing… Vincent did it best. I usually let one out when I do actually sell stuff.
… and the muppets are the total best… did anyone see John Stewart the other night? With the muppet Daily Show people… CLASSIC!
Smu… No Fun Stuff Budget? … that’s why God created Top Ramen.
I’ve been hit by the disappointment bricks many a time.
I make jewelry for my Etsy shop. it’s all hand made by me.
I put a lot of thought and effort into the pieces that I make, and each piece is unique.
I get a lot of traffic through my shop and some people even favorite some of my pieces, (which makes me feel great) but very few people actually buy anything.
Which makes me go “Hey… if so many people come through, and so many people like what I’m making… then why isn’t anyone buying anything?”
My prices are lower than most for the type of jewelry that I make too… so I know it’s not that it’s over priced…
As good as it makes me feel to have people favorite my work, it’s still crushingly disappointing that no one seems willing to buy any of it.
I am a teacher and I get so much accomplished through praise and encouragement. I hate to think that my students must go out into the world where they will be rejected more often than respected. I guess that’s how we are made stronger….but a little approval goes a long way, don’t you think?
Wow. _Another_ guy looks at the zine and tosses it back. And Randie gets hit by _another_ pile of bricks!
Oh wait. This is yesterday’s strip. Never mind.
Pasha…. send us a link to your stuff!
drfuse… I agree…. honey is sweet and attracts insects. Then you can swat them down!
I always feel like that when I’m tabling at a show…some person asks a few questions, thumbs through an issue only to disregard your work completely…it’s pretty belittling.
