I don’t think Ryan really wants Twinkie, but he’s a stand up guy. He’d pull over to help a wandering-obviously lost dog or stay with a kid who’s lost his parent in a grocery store. That’s the kind of guy he is.

What? Has Ryan just saved himself from a pricey field trip to Portland?
Can you do a strip of Beebs getting punched in the face?
Sorry, but people who abandon pets so callously get me very angry.
Rye Rye Rye, *sigh*, you just signed your death warrant.
Why is Ryan making excuses for Beebs abandoning her cat?
That’s pretty flipping uncool.
Remember Beebs other half, and his um… relationship with Twinky? I don’t think of it so much as her abandoning him sense she knows that he’s safe and cared for. More like she’s um… giving him to Randy without her permission.
I don’t know if that makes it better or worse that she would take advantage of a friend like that, but think of all of the times that beebs has probably helped Randy out of scrapes. She might think of it as an even trade off.
Sorry, I completely misspelled Randie’s name.
Yeah Ryan is trying to be the nice guy, but he is also fooling himself into thinking it’s the better road – it’s not. Beebs was being an airhead, worrying only about her new romance and not about any existing obligations (much as I love Randie, she should take note of the occasions she’s done that herself, to be fair).
If Ryan wants to step in, great, but you have to go all the way … or walk away. Unless he’s ready to do something to rein Twinkie in, or at least make it a joint effort with Randie (which means reining her in too! you know she or her mind can wander off …), then he shouldn’t get involved.
Only hurts himself and doesn’t help Twinkie or Randie in the long run.
@Pasha: I know you’re trying to be charitable and understanding, and believe me I like to see that – too little in the world today. But there’s also tolerating too much. People act as thoughtlessly and uncaringly as Beebs did, you gotta call them on it. They won’t “grow up” as long as people let them slide.
And it’s not that they’re being evil, they just aren’t thinking about it – we have to make them look, sometimes. And if they keep doing it because they can’t be concerned that we are being put out for them – that’s when you vote them off the island, so to speak. 😀
I love reading your comments and takes on B.B.’s behavior. Thank you all for thoughts here.
That said. No, Denny, no “punching in the face” cartoons are on the horizon. However, I’m sure you’ll be amused with where things go… a bit later.
Ryan is a do-er. He likes to solve problems. But he also knows that in the immediate future, there is nothing that can be done about the cat’s location. He and Randie have pretty full work schedules at present and running the cat to Portland isn’t feasible. SOOO…. making do, making his friend feel better until such time as something CAN be done is his goal.
And PashKitty, Beeb’s boyfriend, does NOT miss Twinkie.
Grey… I would agree with you last statement… “it’s not that they’re being evil, they just aren’t thinking about it.” Some folks let things casually wash over them.
I don’t think of Beebs as a cat-abandoner as much as she’s simply not a pet person. There are dog-people and cat-people and all kinds of different pet people. But unless you’re the type that puts value on an animal that reaches the level of companion, you simply can’t be a pet person. And that’s Beebs.
Having a pet is a relationship, which by definition is give and take. If you don’t see it like that, you’re just never going to be a pet person.
