Actually, if he missed the issue, that’s probably Mouse’s fault. All comic book stores have an in-house subscription service, where you can sign up to collect whatever titles you wanted. Then when the shipment arrived, you’d get an issue slipped into a bag with your name on it. You’d come in and buy your comics at your convenience.
When we owned Left-Half Comics back in the 80s, over eighty percent of our customers were subscribers, with some having more than 30 titles a month on reserve. We gave a discount for that because it made it much easier to figure out how many copies of each title to order.
Worst spoiler ever – The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, RLS wrote it as a mystery novel “What is the hold Hyde has over Jekyll?” Everyone knows the surprise ending.
brig (2nd post),
Curses; I was going to make a comment about “Who shot JR?”
I had an acquaintance who used to do this sort of thing often. It made for some akward moments.
Spoiler alert, spoiler alert!
Seriously, Midge, you work in a COMIC BOOK SHOP. You should know better than that, and if you don’t, you’ve got the wrong job.
squid man… it makes you want to run from said individual… lest you know the plot lines of all the latest movies and popular books.
Pasha … big time!
Chug… Once he gets over the shock… he’ll backorder the dang thing. And Midge will comp it… or she should.
Mouse did not know because he could not buy a copy of the comic book to read about it. -duh-
Yat… but if he was a REAL fanboy, he’d a heard it on the podcasts, fan websites, or some such thing.
Don’t worry, Mouse. It’ll all be back to normal in four issues. 🙂

Pete… no doubt… it was all a dream… Commissioner Jordon should lay off the late night snacks.
And that would have been a good thing… subscriptions. I guess Backstreet Comics is kind of a bummer of a comics book shop.
Now that was mean… An unwanted spoiler is the worse thing ever. (with stepping on lego)

Val… I would agree. I don’t want to be robbed of the joy of discovery… except in the case of stepping barefoot on a lego.
Beetles… I dunno… I like the way RLS wrote it.
Wasn’t it all just a dream? Nobody shot JR… right?
on a positive note, thanks to midge’s recap, mouse won’t have to read the issue he missed…
Firedome… he would still buy it… there’s art and HOW these events came about… in order to be in on the geek-dom he would have to.
