Bad News
Cal-State University Fort Ordway is, of course, fictional… but Cal-State Monterey Bay is not. Ordway is a local drug store in Monterey. I thought it would be funny to put them together. Now as far as mascots go… CSU-Monterey Bay’s got an otter. UCSC, my alma mater, is a banana slug… CSUFO…? Little green men? A flying saucer?
CS to me is computer science… Alien at a computer? Sounds like a geeky college, though everyone must take English these days.
Hey Brig, check yesterdays comments for a peek at me holding my spanking new granddaughter!
Little green ARMY men. Made of plastic.
It was CSUF for me: Cal-State Fullerton. Later I attended Temple. Still no degree, but I do think about it. Though it would be in North Carolina, where they have the Underwater Archaeology.
And to answer a question you asked me a few days back, Brig: Yeah, I fell in love with The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau waaaay back in the mid-1960s, when I was only five or six. I still wish I’d had someone to encourage me to dream about following that life that seemed so impossible for a kid in Wisconsin.
CSUFO’s mascot should be a little pale guy with big eyes like the conspiracy nuts say landed in area 51.
My first thought for a mascot was some adaptation of the (50’s and 60’s) Alka-Seltzer “Kid”.
Pete,
Wisconsin does not preclude your dreams – Google Roy Chapman Andrews; he was raised in Beloit.
William… CS is computer language… but it is also short for Cal-State. I wouldn’t say it’s a geeky school… but I’d say “it’s out there.”
Pasha…. aw, that is adorable. Now you can spoil the heck out of the little munchkin. Congrats.
Wade… HA! Yes, Fort Ord (the real place) used to be an army base. Ha ha!
Pete… Cal-State Fullerton holds a special place in my heart, even though I never went there. I had dreams of going there at one time. Two of my aunts graduated there… AND I am FROM Fullerton, originally. BUT, my path lead me elsewhere and I am glad of it. I don’t want to live in SoCal anymore. Too crowded… I like my neck of the woods now.
Wisconsin… I don’t guess there are too many “Under the Sea” classes there.
Pete… If you are happy where you are. That is wonderful. If you are not happy and have a longing… then it isn’t alright. Follow the stardust.
JC… Hee hee… wait.. not an otter? or what about “the fighting fisherman”? … or the Kelpers… or…
Beetle… Oh… yes… that’s a fine mascot. PoP… into my head comes the Pilsbury Dough boy. Wrong. Hee heeeee!
The joy of seeing which of your credits transfer, followed by the joy of realizing that you wasted past semesters and your counselors were idiots.
I magnanimously offer up my alma mater’s mascot: the Thunderducks.
I only wish I were making this up.
I like the way you play with local terms. Fort Ordway made me laugh out loud. It’s where all the soldiers were on aspirin, I suppose.
I’d like CSUFO to have a mascot that isn’t quite as obvious as a green alien. But I’m having trouble finding a good one. Maybe an Ewok, because they’re cute like CSUMB otters. But Ewoks haven’t developed space travel capability yet, so they can’t fly UFOs. Well, back to the drawing board…..
How about one of these guys from Earth vs. the Flying Saucers?

For a mascot, how about something both spacey and marine?
The CSUFO Space Gulls.
The CSUFO Otter Space Creatures.
The CSUFO Little Green Manitees.
(I like the last one.)
Oh, I like Space Gulls! Otter Space Creatures is a good pun, but a little too many words. Might be something to work with there, though. The green manatees is a good pun, but that’s not a local animal.
Going along with that theme, though, how about the Airlock Seals?
Dada… ah, you are familiar with this. I was most fortunate in the counseling area… I had good ones who knew stuff.
Flipper… ThunderDUCKS?? Wow… picturing angry duck in a cloud with a lightening bolt (it’s hard to draw thunder). However, I think that’s COOL!!! I love ducks!
Jim… ha ha! Um… does it not look like something else… I shall not name the part of the body… but eh… well, I’ll leave it at that.
Unca Bad/Jim… Space Gulls! Jack would love that! I love Otter Space Creatures… her hee… flying saucers run by otters… funny!
