Back Gnome
When they surround you on your way to the car… you really ought to run.
There’s a great chapter in King’s “The Shining.” It’s in the book and not in the movie. It’s the scariest part of the book (for me)… where the topiary start chasing the main character… the hairs on my arms are sticking straight up right now just thinking about it!
The difference between ‘paranoid’ and ‘prepared’ is whether or not you’re right 😛
My wife is a huge Stephen King fan. She told me that in that chapter, the topiary was chasing him, that every time he turned around, it was motionless yet somehow closer. *shudder* That’s creepy.
For myself, I’ve never been a huge fan of horror. I wrote a short horror story once, then finished less than halfway in, it scared me so much. (I was in my early 20s.) When I told my wife about it, it scared her, too. It still does, she says, and creeps her out when she wakes up at night and hears a sound, thinking about my story.
Ever see the movie “Phantasm?” There’s some creepy hooded gnome creatures in that creepy film.
“Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they aren’t after you”
― Joseph Heller, Catch-22
Jack… Loved the scene where the creepy tall undertaker guy appears behind the girl (or was it a guy) as only an image in a hall mirror, then reaches out and pulls her through to the void on the other side.
As I recall, and it’s been a really long time now, those gnome creatures were the abducted slaves who shrunk due to the immense gravity in the other world.
Yeah, they were being shrunk-down to #1, withstand the immense gravity on the world that they are to be slaves on, and #2, they had to fit inside of those small canisters that were put through that small hole in the floor.
Stick, remember at the end of the movie, where the tall man pulls the main kid- character through the mirror? That caused everyone to jump.
Chug… you know!
Pete… horror scares me. It’s a huge difference between Randie and I… I can’t stand modern horror films and slasher flicks. Randie eats it up. I dig the old classics… the stuff of suspense. One time, I tried to read “It”… nope.
stick.. yup, love that quote.
I did not see Phantasm… but I remember as a child seeing the commercials for said movie… SCARED the CR&** out of me! JUST the commercials!
Squid… yeh, that must have been the scene I was thinking of. I forgot about those canisters. Maybe I’ll watch it again this Halloween. There have been several sequels, I’ll see what they look like too.
That movie definitely had scary parts but also was pretty amusing, taking place in a small town cemetery and funeral home and all. I still remember that flying silver sphere. Kind of like a watch dog that would zip up and down hallways. Only one that had spikes and a rather large spinning drill bit that would pop out for deadly use, as needed.
