Edbert is just strange. A plain Ed or Bert would be better. Or he could be like many of the name cursed and just use his middle name, or initial. J.R. anyone?
Ha, funny, er, ahem, interesting real life names.
Leslie Leslie (past owner of a Monterey car dealership… Leslie Toyota)
Crystal Chanda Leer (of the famous Leer Jet family)
Moon Unit Zappa
Dweezil Zappa
Ahmet Emuukha Rodan Zappa
Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen Zappa (Frank Zappas kids oldest to youngest)
I bet one of the aunt’s is named Bertha.
Stick, Ed Leslie was the past owner of a Monterey car dealership.
He was a friend of my fathers and I got to know him pretty well myself. 🙂
Squid… Is Ed still around? If he is and you run in him (hopefully not with a car from his dealership) ask about Leslie. I recall the name because I thought it was funny that someone would have the same first and last name.
On funny dealer names, I also recall another dealership in Monterey named Butts. There were lots of license plate frames on the backs of cars that had BUTTS written on them in caps. Not saying that was a bad thing, just amusing.
Dang, I was close – I saw my email before I saw the strip, and read the line about “Mouse’s real name”, thought to myself ‘what is it, Edgar?’. So very close, heh.
He could always go by Eddie … lot more macho than Mouse and far less likely to get you beaten up on the playground than Edbert. 😀
Stick, Ed passed away several years ago as did Ed Jr. AKA, Leslie. ( Leslie was his middle name acording to Ed Sr.) It was thought that having both first and last names being Leslie would be enough of a curiosity that people would stop by to meet him, therefore drumming up some buisness. Aparently it worked.
Don Butts and sons Inc. own a lot of the auto dealerships arround Monterey. Don Sr. sold me my first car.
By the way, did you know that Ed Leslie Sr. was a race car driver?
Not too many people do.:)
No, did not know of the Leslies racing exploits. Just vaguely remember the TV commercials with Leslie Leslie. Hmm, adopting his middle name to sell more cars… yup, a car dealer through and through.
So did that car you bought from Butts have a BUTTS frame on its butt end? The dealership sure saw to it that most did.
Ha! When I first created Mouse… I didn’t have a proper name for him. As time went on, I saw him as Edgar… but then as I got to follow Scapula, I decided… no, Scapula is Edgar. So Edbert was the winner.
Ed-bert. Bert isn’t really a name Mouse likes… and Eddie would be alright… but Mouse… if you think about what Edbert does… works with computers, it might make more sense… except, it’s more correct to say that the name “Mouse” is more about his tendencies than anything.
I went to high school with a Bridget Butts… I always that that was an unfortunate name.
I can see why he goes by Mouse. It’s much less embarrassing than Edbert.
Yeah, Edbert is kind of embarrassing, though he could just go by Ed.

Edbert? I suppose it’s better than being called “Mouse.”

stick,
When my Dad drove by the BUTTS sign He said, “If that was my name, I’d change it…” But, your name, your choice…poor Edbert!
yeah…butts pontiac-cadillac was one of the many automobile dealerships on the peninsula when i was a kid.
Edbert!? It’s like on Seinfeld when we learned Kramer’s first name was Cosmo.
