Arbor Day
I have favorite trees… including “Theo” who resides between the lanes of HWY 1 up near Marina. He’s a sturdy Cypress Tree… very handsome and watchful. I also like very much, Victor, a more trimmed prim and proper Cypress, who resides in the Nob Hill parking lot here in Salinas. I’ve tried to reproduce a wee tree from him… but with no luck.
I like Randie’s attitude. There can be a “favorite” of one thing, sure. But there’s a whole lotta sides to me, and “favorite” can shift around a lot, or be in multiple locations at once!
Pete,
Too true. People ask ‘what’s your favorite?’ like it’s set in stone. Mine shift around all over the place….favorite color, food, etc. However, my favorite tree of all time was the eucalyptus I spent half my childhood in. Sadly, it is no more. But Victor at Nob Hill is a handsome stand-in. Hooray for Arbor Day!
Pete: Agreed! We are complicated creatures… with abilities to change our minds and grow.
Judy: Yes, and I give you credit for the last line in the last panel! Well done!
And Monterey is a Tree City… and a fine tree city it is!
TREE HARLOT!
But seriously, I have too many favorite trees to count. They have a way of growing on you (no, that was not a pun).
Many times my favorite tree has been the one I’m resting under at the time. Out in the desert, ALL trees are my favorite tree. 🙂
When I was a kid we visited Muir Woods in Marin County with our pet dachshund. The sight of a tiny dog marking a giant redwood as “his” tree was a hoot.
I don’t have any favorite trees, but for a long time I had a hated tree. It was the one that dropped fir needles on my roof, leading at one time to a leak. After many years the thought occurred to me that it could be chopped down. There is now a stump where by bete noir used to be.
