Aquarium Guestcard
Okay, so Gus won out. Besides having the most votes… I felt that Gus sounded sufficiently silly considering he likes to play with toys. But I think Ryan might call him “Cuddles”… this may not sit well with Gus… if octopi had a tongue to stick out…
Anyhow, thank you all who participated in the “name game.” I thank you and Gus thanks you.
Gus it is! Somehow I knew he’d turn out to be Gus.
And no, he won’t get that pass back. XD
And now that his name has been chosen, it’s time for TIDBITS FROM PETE!
In today’s installment of TIDBITS, we discover that the first place I took a fancy to the name was from the Walt Disney animated movie, CINDERELLA. Having been trapped in a cage, a pudgy mouse was rescued by Cinderella, who calmed him down and then dressed him. In deciding on a name, Cinderella said, “I think your name shall be… Octavian. But for short, we’ll call you Gus.”
In tomorrow’s installment of TIDBITS, we’ll find out that fellow mouse Jaq calls Octavius, “Gus Gus”. And we’ll find out that ‘Gus’ is short for Augustus, the Roman Emperor, who was known as Octavian before becoming Caesar.
We knew what the Rye-man meant!
You really can’t put anything past Ryan… he’s a smart fella… and he knows his best pal. Nope… never gonna see it again!
Ahhhh… Gus Gus. Pete… I am glad you brought up Cinderalla (the Disney version).
When I was little, my grandma gave me a series of Disney record/books. It was an actual recording from the movie coupled with an attached book (it was one unit). There was a narrator and you could read (and sing) along. I had several… Robin Hood, The Aristocats, Peter Pan… but Cinderella was my favorite. I loved that story! I LOVED the mice! (It spawned a lifelong appreciation of micey critters!) And those little mice helping Cinderella make her dress touched my heart as a kid (and even now!)
So Gus the octopus garnished his name due to not only popularity, but happily… due to it’s association… to a mouse.
(I think this was a bit of an unconscious thing, really). I look forward to TIDBITS 2.
Ldet’s not forget what happened when Ryan thought about giving Bob a private use name.
I see you gave him an acronym as well. GUS: Great Underwater Suckerdude
HA! that’s brilliant!
One of my friends randomly asked our geometry teacher whether it was octopi or octopusses. He said octopi.
Apparently, my friend later asked an English teacher, and got the same answer, but responded, it should be octocake.
