Angouleme…
…Only the biggest Comic Festival in the world! And it went down this past weekend. If you recall, I visited Angouleme a few summer’s ago. It was not in the midst of festivalizing (in addition to the toon fest, they have a few different festivals that go on during the year)… but I visited their cartoon art museum and center for the cartoon arts. So impressive…. and whilst walking around… I could feel the echoes of the toon festival previous.
This, the 42nd year of festivalizing the cartoons, there were tributes to Charlie Hebdo, the art of Jack Kirby and Bill Watterson (I wished I’d picked up a C&H in French on my last trip), and apparently, lines that were more than massive! YouTube has many videos up showing the fun chaotic and crowded event. Here’s the official site link: http://www.bdangouleme.com
Watterson did the poster for Angouleme this year… it had a decidedly Euro-comic feel, which I like. What do you think? (Bravo! It’s nice to see Watterson at the pen again!).
Reminds me of the art he did for the Stripped movie.
Gah! I have to see that… it’s been on my radar… then it fell off my radar… and now… I just need to make the time for that! Thanks for the reminder qka!
