This makes me want to go to our local used book and comic store, and I would if I didn’t have the Energizer Bunny virus and a stack of 64 books to read already :).
I’ve tried a couple of different methods for learning languages… First up was the Linguaphone course in Welsh (don’t ask) – I got as far as I learning the Welsh for “I am Welsh” and “I am a doctor” (and I am neither) before I sent it back; the language was making my head spin!
Then I tried a demo of Rosetta Stone to learn Spanish – it seemed good (and I reckon that the Spicer-world equivalent would work for our linguistically-challenged heroine), but I couldn’t afford to buy the whole program. Randie would need to get herself down to the local bibliothèque so she can use it there (since I suspect her financial situation is worse than mine!)
Hmm. Maybe I get too involved with the lives of fictional characters… 😉
I’m taking classes in French myself. (In New Brunswick, which is an officially billingual province.) I’m all right with most of it, and I remember much of my high school/college classes, but I still don’t get why a table is feminine! There must be some reason…
Ms. Carotty (welcome!)… Yes, indeed… I must confess that when this toon was written, my French was tres tres mauvais! It is improving, I am happy to say!
And thank you for your kind words… I am MOST glad you are enjoying Squid Row!

Yay, Goodwill! 🙂

What bugs me is that objects which are one gender in one language are a different gender in another!
I thought English was the only European language which doesn’t use gender for its nouns, but I’m happy to report that I was wrong…
For both chinese and Japanese, though there isn’t the gender problem, difficulties lies elsewhere … XD
I LOVE your comics, Art Mama ! Bonne continuation 😉
By the way, it’s “un” livre, meaning a book, therefore “le” livre (“the book”) is masculin, not “la” livre (which makes it feminine)
