Another toon I had fun doing up. I do love me some squid.
Never stifle the artist’s creativity, always encourage it – that’s how they make the coolest stuff!
I used to work at the Monterey Bay BoatWorks. I wish that we had a mural like this when I was there. Although, Mike Maiorana’s hair is a little dark. Mike is one of the owners of the yard. His father fished sardines here in the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s on a boat called the DUX. Great toon Bridgett!
Spending some time at the Ventura Harbor lately. Market squid is the main fishing industry there. We watch the big boats come in and unload their holds into the big bins of ice, to be shipped all over the country and the world. Interestingly, Asia accounts for a lot of the squid exports from California. Giant squid are sometimes encountered off the coast, and can be a problem for the fishermen at times.
Grey… that’s right! Stifling is bad!
Squid… I thought of you as I drew this puppy (or sucker?) Notice the captain of the boat… remind you of anyone? Also…any resemblance to Mike Maiorana is purely coincidental.
Kona… I love me some squid. I enjoy a good calamari steak, lightly breaded and … oh, I’m salivating right now… Working with the slimy little buggers, do you enjoy the taste of squid?
… and yes, Giant Squid are nasty! They will take you down, beat you up and shred you for dinner. We return the favor, of course.
poor skipper doesn’t have ANY of his oars in the water…
…p.s…i’ve been accused of this…
Oh great, Randie’s released the Kraken. That mural won’t be great for business. Fishermen (and fisherwomen) tend to be a superstitious lot, dontchaknow?
Ha, like the tagline of those current Bud Light football commercials done to Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition,” …”it’s only crazy if it doesn’t work.”
brig… Squid… definitely more of the sucker disposition. And, yes, most yummy, especially with a squirt of sriracha hot sauce.
That painting is kraken me up!
release me, kraken!
stick… Well, at least the mural might get a chuckle around town… sometimes humor stands out… even if the message is weird.
… I feel like havin’ calamari now… and hot sauce would be tastey.
firedome… the skipper DOES have an amazing resemblance, don’t he? hee hee… poor guy… goin’ down with his ship… probably not by choice though.
Dada… Yah… krackin’ da boat up, too!
