Ryan, to BE accomplished, you’ve got to ACCOMPLISH. Stop writing about writing, and DO IT.
My goal for this year is to finally get my tenth novel finished and published, then get on with the next eight that are already planned and under way. (A little bit of a cheat, since four of the eight are all part of an epic story.)

One of my goals for this year is to write at least three days a week (I have enough else on my plate, any more than that would be setting myself up to fail). I mostly write for the fun of it, though, getting published has always seemed like more of a hassle than it’s worth.
A friend of mine wha has written about ten million words but was never able to get anything published through the normal channels, so-called, has taken to putting his novels and stories out on Kindle. His sales are not spectacular, but they are growing, and now have reached into the thousands (for all his available works). Doing it this way means you lack the publicity efforts that a publisher can give you, but he wasn’t getting any agents or publishers interested in helping him anyway.
In case anyone wants to boost his sales, look on Amazon for Bruce Bretthauer (author) or “Kassandra’s Song” which is one of his novels which I thought was good. you can also get that one on Dead Tree.
He also has an enormous series on what he calls “The Families War” which are novels in the genre of traditional SF space opera.
Chug… do you not write SOMETHING everyday? I keep me a sketchbook and I take it everywhere. It is not precious… the drawings can be good/bad/spectacular… but I also keep notes and journal type stuff in it. It’s how I process the world.
M. Lonie… normal channels, I am nearly convinced (nearly) aren’t “the way” anymore. But I could be wrong… somebody could prove me wrong… ANYhow… Your friend keeps more of the profits by not going thru the normal channels… But you practically have to go over Niagra Falls in a barrel to get the publicity.
